Why register your age to view trailer

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 6:01 am

I'm REALLY curious about why I have to enter my date of birth to see the Skyrim trailer. And I have yet to notice anything that could possibly be offensive to children - in this day and age.

Are they, perhaps, trying to measure their target audience in order to fine-tune the various sales angles?

Did you not notice all of the killing and blood that was going on in the trailer?

you need to register your age to access the site, not just the trailer, and that is because Skyrim is a rated M game, or is going to be

Interesting point of view. As bizarre as that sounds, it'd definitely not shock me if someone was to collect marketing demographics in such a manner. You have to wonder about all the falsified data though. So many kids must put 1932 or something far out. All of that data would need to be purged.

Just put in the year you were born in. You don't even have to fill out the rest. Goes for all them.

Oh yeah I always put mine as Jan. 1, earliest year possible because I don't really want to spend time looking through all these numbers to find my exact birthday

Image how useful that is when people like me just make up a birthday. :)

I mean, I don't give my personal information out to anyone over the internet whose name, address, and cell phone number I don't know.

lol Idk, but if they're trying to survey the age of their audience... I think they're going to find that a surprisingly high number of them are 99 years old.

It can't just be this, because I wasn't able to access the site when I said I was born in 1994. Even though I'll be 17 by the time the game comes out.

I think your answer lies somewhere in that realm . . .

Well so far anybody that reads these forums already knows you are a person named Danielle (Dani) located in Chicago, Illinois that really enjoys playing TES games... Just sayin'....

Morals have dropped to poor levels in recent times, but I still don't think a 9 year old should see a throat get cut open or a skull split with an axe. But those things are very poor at doing that. Most kids know if they take the current year, subtract 18 and enter that number they are able to see the content(then the parents go on a war path because their kid was exposed to graphic content). Hell, I'll admit I've been looking at 'mature content' almost since I got my own computer(in 7th grade).

Haha! I didn't intend for it to sound bad when I said you lied. I was implying it's a pretty faulty system.

Only 99 year old, I wrote 1001 as year of birth making me 1010 years old.
Can somebody try with negative numbers please.

Very true. I wasn't thinking about that when I joined the forums. Besides, since then I've had an experience that convinced me that there are people who will use your information to track you down - for good or not.

Since last year, I've become a lot more careful who I give information to. And you should too!

No offense was taken. :) It is a faulty system . . . or at least a silly one.
