Why is Rolf Stonefist marked as an essential NPC?

Post » Sat Mar 22, 2014 4:23 am

I do not understand why I cannot decapitate that idiot, and eventually cast whatever is left of his soul into the Soul Cairn.

Is there any reason for him being unable to be killed, or is it a M'aiq the Liar type thing where they just want to annoy you?

And the really annoying thing is that if you fight the bigoted little :swear: , he calls you "friend" for ever after! :wallbash: !!!

Because he's a very important citizen of Windhelm and he's a nice guy.

Perhaps because he's Galmar's brother, and they forgot to give the unique voice actor any dialogue relating to Rolff's death.

I think it rather depends on where the fist goes exactly.

It's a shame.. One of my favourite NPC's, and the very first NPC I took a liking too has a senselessly drunk and racist brother. :(

Yeah, have to admit him being essential annoys me. Just glad he and his idiot friend didn't do any of what they said in the Grey Quarter. Otherwise Windhelm would have a few more murders on their hands. Really hate those two.

Didn't realize until just now that he was the brother of Galmar, at least him I get to kill. Sorry Hagrid, gotta confess he is one of the characters I hate most in all of Skyrim.

I always run after him and offer him out for a fight as soon as I get into Windhelm. Of course then I get the 'friend' nonsense afterwards, even as a filthy grey-skin myself. The other one I've been tempted to set as not-essential is

Spoiler
Calixto, I'd quite happily follow him home and prevent Blood on the Ice from ever starting, if I wasn't fairly sure it would completely bug out the game, given the number of bugs in that dratted quest. Susannah's so nice and he's a creepy incistuous little Jack the Ripper wannabe. Grr.

Oh, wait, we're in the spoilers section, oh well, I've tagged it now.

For [censored] and giggles.

Same. Not even Paul Eiding voicing him can save him from my ire.

I think they had to get two sixy-voiced gravelmen to voice him* and Ulfric or nobody would ever be able to sit through that interminable conversation they have when you just want to join up (I know you *can* butt in, but it's not terribly respectful, is it?)

*Galmar, obv, not Rroollff**.

**can never remember which letter is doubled.

Haha its true, I would love to put both of those morons in their place permanently, but to be fair I also just want to walk in and cut both Ulfric and Galmar down before the war ever gets started. I always interrupt Ulfric anymore because I can't stand listening to him and his elitist speeches. And I want to duct tape Galmar's mouth shut.

Seriously, can we just get TES VI now and leave Skyrim? I wish I hadn't played Oblivion to death because I would go back to that if I could until ESO came out.

Because otherwise, and you kill Rolf, you'd have a very angry, murderous Galmar Stonefist coming at you with full, no holds barred, fury of the Nords. Galmar isn't exactly one to go, "I will fight anyone who threatens my family! Oh, you...you killed my brother? Ah well, no matter, want to help fight for Ulfric?"

It was to prevent any breaking of the Civil War questline by offing Galmar early, or have people wonder why Galmar doesn't seem to take his brother's death a bit more personally given his personality.

That makes sense, does it remove the essential tag after the civil war though? Galmar ends up dead as a dog in my games so I wouldn't mind making his brother join him.

Considering all the other ridiculous situations you can place yourself in, I highly doubt this was the reason.

"I killed the Emperor, can I join the legion?" "Yeah, sure." being one of many.

@ Monkeyemoness- In their defense, they don't know it was you who murdered the Emperor, they just know someone killed the Emperor. Galmar, however, would probably have a lot of witnesses to tell him exactly who sent his brother to Oblivion.

They really should have put in a non essential mode in the options menu so that we wouldn't have had these issues.
