The reason we've been shaving our faces it for the last 100 years is because it helps create a seal for the gas mask. Without a seal, the gas will seep in through the cracks and still affect you.

Many reasons. One being that in a fight beards can be a weakness, same for long hair. It also helps/ed distinguish different groups of people, as other pointed out having facial hair was often seen as uncivilized and such. As well as a matter of hygiene, less body hair means less places for lice and such to live on you.

Edit: I shave because it doesn't grow in even and patches and I think it looks stupid for the most part. Lately I haven't been shaving much, just don't feel like it and I don't care if I look odd but sooner or later I will once again tell myself it looks stupid and remove it and do it over again.

My beard growing skills are not good and I am quite self conscious about my image. So no facial hair for me.

I like my facial hair but I don't want to look like a ZZ Top dude so yes trimming is a must for me to avoid that. I also like to keep my head buzzed short as it's so much better then hair in so many ways.

That final paragraph shares something in common with deodorants/antiperspirants: Because it's natural and part of being human, no one cared about, until someone developed a cream that blocked sweat and couldn't convince doctors they needed it for their hands, so they started a campaign to convince women that they were gross for sweating and told them to buy their antiperspirants. Fast forward to now, and you can get fired for not wearing any in some jobs.

All it takes is a little greed, plus dash of sixism and you can create a market for anything!

Shaving is a must. Eating is an inconvenience when you wash your face after a meal and your beard still had ketchup beneath the hair.

But keeping your beard trimmed is a manly habit. Men should learn the skill of proper beard trimming and not go to a beautician for it.

That's right. I get depressed if I don't regularly shave. Fortunately my genes have been kind and I have minimal body hair. Still, it has to go.
