Why Do We Shave?

Post » Mon Jun 02, 2014 4:10 pm

Simple question, I'm sure. Why do you shave? Why has mankind been shaving their faces, legs, etc. for thousands of years? What are the major reasons for our need to shave? Do we even have to? Is it detrimental to our hygiene if we do not? What's the point to it, really? Discuss.

M'aiq doesn't shave... He does not need too. His fur keeps him very, very warm.

In seriousness, M'aiq doesn't shave, because he does not need too. XD

facial hair can get quite messy, and depending on the person, not a good look. In terms of places outside the face, it looks nicer without hair in certain areas.

So if you want a point, it's to look sixy/much more presentable when you take care of your hair. Applies to both genders. Unless of course you wish to work for Duck/Buck Commander, in which case a beard is mandatory.

Because facial hair is for the barbaric tribes outside the walls. Also it's gross.

I have a fade for my head and goatee for my face.

Wait that doesnt really answer your question, well. . ,

As for me, i like a short haircut (now anyway) because the short hairs feel good to rub and also it feels refreshing when i feel the breeze, as for my face, i really like the scruffy feel.

Also, unibrows are a terrible look and must be purged with...anything that'd remove it.

People are so serious about shaving their facial hair. So many facial hair. M'aiq thinks they wish they had glorious manes like Khajiit.

In other words, there really is no reason to why I shaved five minutes ago?

There is really no reason for anything depending on your attitude. Same goes for the opposite.

And when I start to itch I feel like I'm dirty and I can't stand trying to sleep if I feel dirty.

My hair? Because being bald feels sooooo sterile and clean and I love it. I feel dirty and germ covered when I have hair. My facial hair? Because if I grow a full beard, it looks like a shocked badger took a nap on my face. My facial hair is that burly and uncombable because it'll always be weirdly 'not straight but not curly' texture. So I settle for a goatee.

Other than not looking like a hobo or someone who doesn't care, yep. There is also the itching factor, which is really annoying. And as someone who did used to have a beard for a good while, it suuuuuuuuuuuucks to have one during the hot seasons. Useful when it is cold, but terrible during summer.

I personally like the stubble look on myself, but it gets quite itchy and annoying to manage. I used to have a beard during all of college, of which was also kept to a certain length and shape so I didn't look like a total mess.

My face feels itchy if I don't shave. I can't even stand a five o'clock shadow.

Homeless people can be quite clean shaven...

Anyway found this, not a definite answer but definitely a possibility,

societies predetermined beliefs of what the perfect worker, or what the perfect man should look like..

in other words, people first impressions of us have nothing to do with what we say or what kind of person we are, it is immediately based off of what we look like (don't believe me? go into a bar with an unkept beard, messy dirty hair, and sweats.. you will not successfully get a single womens number)

Hygiene does work better with less hair around, but not better enough that anyone should really care, taken that you don't wash yourself once a year.

I shave because I look like an idiot with what facial hair I can grow.

Eh, even with a beard, it still should be trimmed, shaped, and taken care of, or else it gets really nasty, especially when bugs start living in it. So the whole "if you go a beard no one makes money" is utterly bogus.

I shave because I can't grow a proper beard, to the point where I don't really have to shave because you can't see any of my chin hairs :(. My mustache is a 6/10 though.

Yep. And cause I can't grow much hair anyways. And my skin gets really bad if I don't shave.

No real point in the end. You can find a partner with or without a beard, and if you find one that doesn't care if you shave or not, you know she's not superficial  I personally shave every 2-3 months, my "3rd" month is right now so I'll probably be giving the person who cuts my hair a call. In summertime I try to keep it trimmed, only for comfort, but half the time I end up forgetting about doing it, and by the time I remember, it's far to long to take off with a razor ^^

Because beards/staches aren't good on all faces. Some faces it looks sixy and some it doesn't.
