why no shock dragons?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 6:45 pm

serious question. how come fire, frost, and shock are always elements in TES but for some reason the dragons don't come in this variety. it can't be any more unbelievable than a fire or frost breathing dragon. thoughts on this?

I thought the same thing. Though I guess they were thinking traditional dragons when designing them and went with fire and ice and didnt think to add a shock dragon.

Dragons don't "breath fire" per say, as I understand it. They shout. If you encounter a "Fire Dragon" it's only a fire dragon because its preferred shout is Fire. Is there a Shock shout?

For that matter, blood dragons should use a life-stealing Thu'um.

this is a great point, i did realize i said breathe rather than shout but none-the-less, bethesda could have made a lightning shout, or dragons could use a form of the storm call shout for this.

I doubt Skyrim is an accurate representation of how many words of power there are.

And yes there is a shock shout. Storm Call.

This is because Cole MacGrath didn't teach the Dragons the art of Breathing shock.

Chuck Norris' whisper is a shock shout.

Perhaps because breathing fire and frost is more traditional, while spitting lightning derives from a modern RPG?

Maybe its just me and my Dungeon and Dragons nerd side coming out, BUT, I'm surprised Black Dragons don't shout poison gas.

Just let them use storm call and problem solved; Alduin already uses a version of it in his meteor shower shout. Some people have reported seeing dragons using different shouts at high levels, so it might be an unlikely, but possible occurrence.

Spitting lightning just looks lame, I can see why they would omit it from a design perspective.

Or an alteration dragon, he just paralyzes you, no attacks with damages, but constant paralysis every couple steps

good points all of you. i wish the dragons could use all the shouts.
-imagine being caught in a slow time shout, you can't move but the dragon is tearing you apart.
-whirlwind sprint, a dragon could evade your arrows/ spells
-marked for death, now this would be a tough one to fight against!
-unrelenting force, why not?!
this is the dragon's language, i feel like they should be able to use all of them, everyone keeps saying dragons are to easy, i think this would change it up.

Scathe, I like your slow time and unrelenting force ideas. (Still not sure about breathing lightning. It just looks quite tacky, no?) Those would be pretty whack ...! Love it.

Mods, when you get the CK, get on this?

I'm pretty disappointed that dragons only use two shouts. Why can Dovahkiin learn more shouts than the dragons themselves? It's their freaking language, let them use ice form, marked for death, slow time, storm call, etc. Would make dragonfights that much more interesting.

I think that most dragons just have a preferred shout. Alduin also has his own preferred shout, the meteor storm effect (I forget the name, but you can see the English name of the shout when you're battling Alduin as it applies in active effect onto you.

I would spend $4.99 on a pack that added a couple new types of dragons and some shouts that you could learn exclusively through battling some new named dragons. Better than horse armor, lol.

I was thinking the same thing. I expected there to be a lot more variety in the dragons but I was wrong... 2 types with a bunch of different names, pretty disappointing :/
