Why Is Skyrim So Much More Expensive in the US?

Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 2:12 am

Look at this.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004G5YW5Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

now look at this.

http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-Pc/dp/B004HYIAPM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1318744597&sr=8-3

Both are the PC versions of Skyrim. Yet, why is the American version so much more expensive?

UK version = £27.89
If you convert the pounds to dollar value, the UK version comes out to $43.8514. What gives?

Why do Americans have to pay $59.99 for this?

Look at the exchange rate, that says it all. The American dollar is losing value, so it costs more dollars to make and produce something. Therefore, the cost of the finished product also goes up.

Its been this way for the longest, i doubt its the Price of the American Dollar, and i don't care $60 is a fair price.

It has been a consistent 10 dollar hike each gen. Companies are going to start pricing themselves out of casual gamers comfort zone if they're not careful.

Yea, PC games were $50 not that long ago, just last year. Still doable for a good game. If it was $100 I would never buy new...

It's $90 USD here. In Australia. So get over your cheap $60 price.

Let's compare the CE prices shall we:

$149.99 = £94

While it's being sold here at

£129.99 = $205

[censored] and pillaging. Otherwise known as capitalism. Aussies love to complain about how much more they pay than everyone else for the same game, but they still buy. Why lower the price if they continue to buy whilst complaining?

Dunno about you, but I feel like I am doing my part by purchasing only 1 game this year and that is Skyrim. All those other AAA titles? They can wait until they are put in the bargain bin. For $60 US I am not satisfied with a game I will tire of within a few hours. I am not going to buy in at that price...period.

I think if I were an Aussie I would just give up on the video games entirely. They just get [censored] on prices.

No, we're not a colony anymore. We haven't been a colony for over 100 years. We are a sovereign nation.

Also, to all of you americans, just because i feel I have to make this point. Some of my friends went to california a while ago, and it shocked me what they thought about canada. Canadians do not have a weird accent, and we live pretty much the exact same as americans do, we just have a little bit more space and cleaner air. I'm only saying this because once an american actually asked me if Canadians lived in log cabins...

I remember a couple of years ago, the new releases in the UK were starting to reach £50, and of course, nobody bought them. New releases are much, much more likely to release at £40 on consoles and £30 on PC. Generally as well products that haven't been released in the UK usually have deals on them (I know GAME are quite good for this, sometimes offering like £5/£10 off if you pre-order) and once they are, the prices shoot right up. Steam are being stupid, you can buy Skyrim on the pc at GAME for £29.99, but on Steam for £35 (with a £5 discount, which will disappear on release). Someone needs to wake up the games industry in the US and tell them to match our prices over here.
