Why Skyrim? (Partie Deux)

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:13 am

Why not Summerset Isle? Why not Elswyr? Why not High Rock?

I never said that it shouldn't be anywhere else, but if evidence points in that direction why not try to see the brighter side of things? :)

Why not Summerset Isle? Why not Elswyr? Why not High Rock?

Let's assume their choice is crucial to the greater story arc. I know that's a huge leap of faith.

I've got to say, I hope my fellow Skyrim supporters will be this vocal when the TES V forum is made and 20x more people screaming "SKYRIMZ GUNNA BE ALL SNO!!!" join and make topics about it. We're going to need as many rational people as we can get if we're going to prevent a future TESV board from turning into *shudders* what the New Vegas forum is currently like.

I may not agree that Skyrim is the best place to set TES V, but I will definitely join this cause.

On another note, It won't bother me too much if TES V is in Skyrim, as long as the game is good.

What's so special about High Rock now that it no longer has giant stompy bot? Squabbling nobles? They have that elsewhere too.

I've got to admit, out of all the provinces, the most boring seems to be High Rock. I'm sure that Bethesda could make an amazing game out of it, but all the lore about it makes it seem so boring. My only hope for it is that somehow, someway the Orsimer can manage to take over, however unlikely it may be, and infuse it with their culture and make the province at least somewhat interesting.

I agree with you there. Whilst the political intrigue rivals that of Morrowind, the entire atmosphere of Daggerfall was basically a Shakespearian play. Lords and castles and knights and all that.

The main difference being Juliet would have just used a fire spell instead of Romeo's dagger.

Highrock's an amalgamation of Skyrim and Sumurset, with cut-throat, nightblade politics. The reachmen witch-warriors wander the desolate plains. Orsinium's next door. But the best part about Highrock, like Skyrim, is that it dosn't exist. There is no central government or domineering nationality. We're back to kingdoms - though not as many as there were, thanks to everyone's favorite stompy bot. There is no empire, anymore... besides the Thalmor and that pretender, who does not have the support of the colovians. Which = doomed.

Why Skyrim?

Why not?

It's a ripe new land to explore. I'm sure there's massive room for variety and lore there. It's definitely not just a bigger version of Solsthiem. I would really enjoy playing a game set in the home land of the Nords.

But do I think the next game is going to be Skyrim? I have my doubts.

Look at how the last three games have went...Daggerfall - human province. Morrowind - elf province. Oblivion - human province (Cyrodill)

If they keep doing the back and forth thing, then logically another elf or beast race province would be next. Of course nobody said it was a rule they were going to do that, but it's plausible they copyrighted Skyrim as a name for some other reason - possibly as an expansion somewhere down the line.

Why not?

Saying "Why not" earns you the question "Why not any other province?"

You're not getting a great point across. My main question on the thread before this was

"Why do you want Skyrim more than any other province?"

Assuming you do.

I'm so happy you've developed the ability to read the first sentence of my post.

I'm wishing you luck in learning to read the rest.

It's not about what I want. I don't particularly want any one province more than any others. I just want another TES game and I'm trusting Bethesda to deliver the goods. I'm sure they'll make whatever province they choose work.

Personally I've love to see Sumerset Isles or Black Marsh but I'll settle for Skyrim.

In your thread, you just explained why you thought it would be unlikely for Skyrim to be picked, not what you wanted :P Glad you explained it here.

And damnit, I are the reading very good. Don't making the fun of my skill. :spotted owl:

What I'd like to see is a good advantage to using fire spells in southern Skyrim. Practical, aswell as the extra killing power.

If I'm in the snowy mountains/lakes, I could use fire spells to dig a cave in the snow to shelter from the weather, or to melt through ice, if stuck beneath (because of vampires, most likely).

Of course, in North Skyrim (It's cold because of the mountains in the south, not because it's so far north), there would be better use for other spells. I could, for example, find fire based enemies to have special use of Ice magic. I also want to see a more obvious weakness/strength system. I want to be using fire spells against Frost Atronachs, Frost spells against fire, etc.

I used to want Skyrim because i thought it would be more like Solstheim and the Jerall Mountains, just even bigger and atmospheric, heck when i think about Skyrim, this is still the image which comes to mind. Yes some of us actually prefer the more mundane settings. But i realized something, no matter where the game takes place, no matter which province or region we are gonna visit this time, we are gonna need both the weird and unfamilir aswell as the earthly and recognisable. This 2 things together, is what makes Tamriel such an interesting place to explore in my opinion and looking at Morrowind and Oblivion it seems Bethesda agree. Vvardenfell had plenty of the medieval europe stuff some morrowind fans seems to hate, and then there was Bloodmoon which added even more of that. It's not even like there weren't any weird and alien landscapes in Oblivion, remember Shivering Isles?

This is why i'm fine with any province as long as it's in Tamriel and it isn't Morrowind or Cyrodiil again. I simpley expect to see both things no matter if it's Black Marsh or Skyrim. They all sounds like interesting places to visit and i would like to see every province eventually anyway. Any province could be great and any province could be terrible, it's all up to Bethesda.
