Why Steampacks heal so slow?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:35 pm

Steampacks are almost no different from common food when it comes to regen which is just stupid. On high difficulty there are many situation when I need quick heal - when get poisoned for example - and Steampack just doesnt give it, do I die. I know there is perk for it, but you can get Medic rank 4 only at 49 level.

Bethesda, plz, either improve Steampack's efficiency or improve Medic perk so that every rank improved not only amount but also speed of Steampack's healing.

When you write ''steampack'', I assume you mean ''stimpak''.

Either way, I don't really know why Bethesda did like they did - but an Idea could be because maybe it's more realistic this way? (to heal gradually when taking a shot instead of just BAM, healthy.) I didn't even consider the subject until I saw your post since I don't feel that bothered by it, but I hope you find out the reason why. Surely they have a good explanation though. :)

Because everyone was complaining how it was too easy and ridiculous to spam instant heal stimpacks while punching deathclaws to death :lmao: I for one am glad of the change ^_^

Nuka-Cola Quantum is pretty much a Super Stimpack, hold on to those. You need to take cover, of if possible leave combat for healing.

Its pretty much useless until rank 4 which only unlocks at 49 level.

Biggest problem with stimpak regen - it doesnt save from dying in tough situations at all. At least on survival difficulty.

That's by design, so you can't cheese the system with them like in Fallout 3. In Fallout 3, you could fight ANYTHING as long as you had enough Stimpaks, because you could just pause and insta-heal up to full health. It made every fight easy.

In Fallout 4, you are going to die if you pick a fight that is too hard, regardless of how many Stimpaks you have.

So you need to focus on mitigating damage - armor, strategy, ambush, weapon modding, etc. instead of just expecting to tank damage and shoot yourself full of healing items.

At least it isn't like in Fallout 1 or 2. If you took too many Stimpaks in those games, you could overdose and die.

Umm, if your getting shot up so much on high difficulty its probably your fault rather than the way "Stimpacks" are designed.

Don't use healing items for tanking,

There are perks to assist with Tanking, Armor, Armor Mods....AND don't overlook the use of DRUGS, yep drugs are wonderful for tanking damage...But healing items heck no.

Thats what the survival mode stands for... Its harder to stay alive. I think even a loading screen says something like in survival health regen is slowed down.

But if you change stimpacks to instaheal then there is no difference to normal except bigger healthpools + higher damage from enemies.

So when you keep dying, lower the difficulty. Or try other tactics. But asking for better/faster healing eliminates the only "hard" factor on survival.

I think its just bad design. Steampaks are antibiotics that should be much superior in healing then common food. In F4 they arent any different. I dont say steampaks should heal instant. But for sure they should heal faster so they could fulfill a role of emergency aid. To balance things, they could add addiction to them so that player didnt spam steampaks every fight.

What's bad design is making all forms of damage in a game irrelevant when one can just spam a button to heal to full health within a second. Because that's what it was like in FO3/NV. The way stimpaks work now offer a much more balanced experience that make enemy engagements something to be wary of knowing you can't heal right away when your health is low. Now it is something you have to time right with your health, and not just spamming the "never going to die" button.

And Skyrim. Oops, health dropping, drop to pause menu and eat a buffet table of food. There, healthy again.

Steampaks are slow because they work on Valve Time.

Because instant heal would be over powered god mode, like in Fallout3.

Yes, I do too. I modded Stimpacks in Fallout 3 to do the same thing.

Oh, and I'm also a "casual." :)

Cant you guys read. Noone says about instant heals. I say about stimpaks being more useful then common food which they arent. And helping in emergency situation which they again dont. If you have huge monster on you or you get poisoned, stimpak's slow health regen will be useless - you will die.

Stimpacks are heal over time for balance. Instant heal is a bit too unrealistic and makes the game too easy. I still have quite a few Stimpacks on Very Hard, though I am in power armor most of the time now

The advantage stimpaks have over food is that they also heal limb condition. If you're limbs are in good health, you should use food/drink to heal. If you have heavily damaged or broken limbs, use a stimpak.

P.S. I also love the slow healing change. Nothing beats cramming 18 food items down my throat then sprinting around in a frantic panic while my health ticks up hoping I don't get nailed.

Are you not able to read??? Eyeryone in this thread keeps telling you it is for balancing and it is better this way. Again, if you keep wiping in survival play on a lower difficult instead of whining in the forum that stimpacks need a buff.

perhaps a slight resistance buff to stimpacks would make them better.. perhaps add a few temporary armor points to stimpacks just to give them an edge over food (which is very plentiful and the same as stims so food outpaces stims at this point)

I'm playing on normal and they heal over time. It's only a few seconds but it's enough to make you think a little more carefully - like when you get ambushed by three super mutants in a building because your not paying attention and have to beat a hasty retreat!

I honestly prefer it to the insta-heal version from Fallout 3.

In a survivor difficult a simpack should just prevent an infection in case you are hurt and while your body recovers slowling in the coming days/weeks ...
