Why 11/11/11

Post » Thu Feb 11, 2010 10:39 pm

It's catchy, that's all.

Even go listen to the last podcast, they're amused at the fact that we're "going all Da Vinci Code" with the 11/11/11 date.

As pretty much everyone else is saying, it's just because it's a cool date that's easy to remember.

Also, I really hope you're wrong about the player being a follower of St. Martin. I don't want to have a pre-determined role in the game.

Couple of quick points:-

1. US dating conventions differ from other English speaking nations. In US 11/01/11 means 1st November 2011, in UK etc it means 11 January 2011. So having day number = month number avoids international confusion.

2. In the UK at least, 11 November is a sensitive day, Armistice Day, (end of first world war). I'm sure Bethesda know this, and won't do anything too crass.

My theories.

1. The numbering scheme for the date is just bad ass. I imagine if the game was to be released in 2012, the release date would be 12/12/12 (which is awesome because that's my birthday :cake: )

2. It's on a Friday, so who's not going to be able to go to the midnight release and spend their whole weekend in Skyrim? It's almost like Bethesda is giving the people who work weekdays some out of game fan service. Because it svcks whenever you get a game on the day it comes out (usually on a Tuesday), but only have like an hour or two to play it before you have to get ready for work.

3. As many others have said, it's just Bethesda's crafty marketing system at work. And boy are they good.

As everyone knows, the 11th of November is the same day that the Feast of Saint Martin occurs on

You have to be careful with saying stuff like 'as everyone knows', particularly when the subject in question is an obscure christian festival. As far as I'm aware the 11th of November is important only for the fact that it is Remembrance Day (in Commonwealth countries at least).

bleh, i would kill st. martin in sight! heh, just kidding...

I'd just kill him, cause .....why not?

Yeah I'm sticking with the more plausible 11/11/11 is easy to remember/sounds cooler/dramatic crowd.

But then maybe it has something of a reference that they may know about, who knows.

Also I have never heard of the St Martin Festival.

Oh, don't worry. November 11th (aka Veteran's Day) is quite celebrated here in the States as well. :)

Do people stay inside their homes and pray on Armistice Day or some other faceitous activity?

Lots of people will get married on that day. So imagine the millions of extra sales when they all get multiple copies of TES5:Skyrim from the guests as wedding presents!! :D

It was announced on December 11th or 11/12/10, and will be released on 11/11/11. It is exactly 11 months til' its release.

11/11/11 is a date that won't occur for another century...which makes it cool.

I think that's basically it.

Numnber 1 reason: It is easy to remember and with the announcement date creates a nice string of ones.

Additional reasons: Rememberance day, 5th anniversary of PS3 release.

That would be true for any date. Seriously, look.

04/10/46

17/09/27

Any of those going to occur before 2100?

Why not?

Here are reasons why
1. Easy to remember
2. Bethesda believes they will be done around this time
3. Palindrome (a word or phrase that is spelled the same backwards as forwards 11-11-11)
4. The only once a century date that has six different numbers that are all the same (1)
5. Internationally recognized as the same date (some countries have day-month-year and some have month-day-year)
6. It was announced 12-11-10 and is released 11-11-11 which is 11 months away
7. Bethesda finds number speculation to be funny so they purposefully made an easily speculative release date
8. And again, it was coming up so why not
9. It's on a Friday so many will have all weekend to play
10. It's a federal holiday so some kids have it off

Reasons why not to
1. Veterans day or Remembrance Day, so many stores will be closed as well as no mail will be delivered
2. It's released shortly after Gears 3 and Uncharted 3
3. It is a theoretical release date and a major issue might cause it to change

I mean that the numbers are all the same. EG;

03/03/03 (2003). Won't occur exactly like that for another century - 03/03/03 (2103)
11/11/11 (2011). Won't occur until - 11/11/11 (2111)

See?

There are also only 12 varieties of that, as there is no 13/13/13 (no 13th month) nor 00/00/00 (no 0 day/month)

Well your first mistake was this:

In fact, I would go as far to say that nobody knows that 11th of November is St. Martin Feast-day-celebration-or-what-have-you.

But then again, I might just be being facetious.

i didnt even know there was a saint martin...

...also, its a bit odd of him saying "as everyone knows" ...when he himself said he had done alot of research on the meaning behind such a date.

having to do so much research proves even the TC didnt know about saint martin's feast... or whatever.

so... this whole topic is pointless! :D

Vivec's 11th Sermon: "Hortator and Sharmat, one and one, eleven, an inelegant number. Which of the ones is the more important? Could you ever tell if they switched places?"

Could be a story reason based on this.
