Why 11/11/11

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2010 2:41 am

So, after much research I've finally determined why it is that they are releasing Skyrim on 11/11/11 and what secrets they're telling us by releasing it on that day.

As everyone knows, the 11th of November is the same day that the Feast of Saint Martin occurs on. (http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=Feast+of+Saint+Martin&lk=1&a=ClashPrefs_*Holiday.FeastOfStMartin.Christianity-) Why is this important you might ask? It's obvious really... Brother Martin has become Saint Martin. Which means 2 things for us: One, he's dead! and Two, he's loved by all, or at least some people. So clearly by stating the release date as 11/11/11 they've not only told us what happened to Brother Martin who we all cared so much about finding out more about, but they've also informed us that he will be an important part of the story, or his follower will.

But what is the plan for St. Martin? Will we get to play as a follower of St. Martin come to Skyrim to spread the word? Are we going to be able to join the Church of St. Martin and do quests for them to eventually gain the rank of Arch Bishop? Will it be St. Martin's followers that finally put an end to the evils of the dragons terrorizing the countryside? What guesses do you have as to why St. Martin will play an important part in the story and even if you don't have a guess, you can just respond about how awesome St. Martin is!

the real answer is its full of 1's so its easy to remember. they cant do 22/22/22 coz it would take too much time plus they'd have to lobby for a change in calendar months just for one game.

I think you overthunk it. Beth usually have late releases and that they choose 11/11/11 because it's a cool date string that doesn't happen that often.

I just think that they did it on 11/11/11 because its easy to remember and its a pretty unique thing..

Just looking at Modern Warfare 2, it was released on 11/10/09...

11/11/11 is just meant to be a cool day. And Skyrim just made it all the cooler. That's all.

Well, this doesn't make very much sense at all. If I'm not mistaken I'd say you were just being facetious.

Uncharted 3 is being released on 11.1.11, the developers just like fancy dates.

Bleh, this is for praising the glory that is St. Martin who is the true reason behind Skyrim and thinking on what it is that they will use St. Martin for in Skyrim. Not for just stating that the date is cool, that was already established by the simple fact that Skyrim is being released on it.

Well your first mistake was this:

As everyone knows, the 11th of November is the same day that the Feast of Saint Martin occurs on.

In fact, I would go as far to say that nobody knows that 11th of November is St. Martin Feast-day-celebration-or-what-have-you.

But then again, I might just be being facetious.

Plainly, they chose 11/11/11 because 10/10/10 won't work. Besides, it's not a hard date to remember, in fact it's difficult to forget, once you've heard it. I give their marketing department a little gold star for that one.

The "Feast of St.Martin" might have something to do with it, although if I'm playing a Bosmer, that could have a rather creepy connotation, now that he's dead.

I'm not really sure why they selected that date I mean it is a Friday. If I had to guess its something in Skyrim probably revolves around the number 11.

It can't be the amount of cities because there's only 8 cities in Skyrim (Assuming the Devs don't add new canon which they probably will).

Could it involve the Greybeards or the Dragons that is a possiblilty.

I figure it was so when they delay the game than can say, the marketing guy screwed up. We really meant 1/11/11!

The real reason it's on 11/11/11:

The devs realized they could no longer have any fun making fun of the forum members who came on here hoping and begging for a TESV announcement. So they decided they needed something else to give forum members an itch that they just could not itch.

They debated and deliberated with great intensity until the tiniest dev of them all said, "What if we use 11/11/11 as the release date? It would surely give the forum members an itch they could not itch". All went silent in the room and the devs all settled down back into their chairs. They looked around and nodded at one another and realized that the date could make forum members ponder the puzzling release day.

And so came to pass that they decided on 11/11/11 and they waited and watched for the threads to crop up. With each thread that is created pondering the meaning of 11/11/11, you can hear laughter in the depths of the forum for the devs are laughing at our expense.

The End.

If we're to believe what the publisher first wrote for the TES novel that the game takes place 200 years in the future I'm sure some cities have changed ;)

(Hell maybe we'll hear a conversation that the city state New Kvatch was rebuilt after separating from the Empire when they refused to rebuild :P)
