Why do the beast races feel so awkward?

Post » Wed Feb 05, 2014 12:13 am

Ooh, I disagree about the awkwardness, if only because head items tend to get rid of hair...which doesn't look nearly as bad and "awkward" on Argonians, as opposed to the few times I try to play as "human" races.

For instance, this is what my http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/882978104714050481/852788FC43CDA1E875DC08D81B8C13413F08ADA1/ looks like. Almost looks like the robes were made for her!

You know, I find that it's easier to create an unique looking Khajiit than an Argonian. There are more options for them in character creation.

If you make good use of it, you'll probably never see another Khajiit that looks like yours, whether it is in the game or made by other people.

They bother me too, to be honest, I've spent my life studying biodiversity and evolution and etc and all I see is a cat or lizard head sitched onto a blatant primate hominid body and I'm just like what the hell is tbat? Why is it speaking? I don't even...

Mer are fine because I just imagine they're a variation or offshoot of hominid, but cat and lizard people don't jive.

If I was to pick two beast races one would be an ape and another maybe an octapus or something entirely not human.

I tend to play the kitties, and likely going back to one again soon.

The argonians I can never make look right to me, especially since I tend to roll females (always seem to have more fun playing girls in rpgs for some reason, think it's the fact there is always so many big bad beefcake boys it's nice to play a heroine for a change)

There is some oddness, but that's to be expected. they are not human or elflike, they have different viewpoints and such so their world is a lil off kilter to the normal human/mer folks

I've been wanting to do a Khajiit playhrough for a while now but, like so many other good character ideas, its ended up on the backburner.

I am using a modded Khajiit follower in my current playthrough though - http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/702857493936511256/B1E2CE5663A6709BAE662D06E44C928B8CAC4C7F/ - and I'm really enjoying him.

Aw, thanks >w<

Well, in the case of Argonians, they're apparently literally humanoid forms that take on more reptilian traits the more Hist sap they ingest, so they start out as primate hominids to begin with. And Khajit are always on the sliding scale between "full cat" and "full human" according to the phases of the moons when they're born.

...I mean, granted, this in-universe explanation exists solely to handwave Argonians and Khajit being "human" in the first TES game, but...

I have Inigo, too, and I love him! Why can't vanilla Skyrim followers have this much dialogue? It's a shame.

A couple of other reasons beast folk bother me: there are no Khajiit people to marry and no Khajiit or Argonian children in the game, unless you mod them in.

There is no evolution in TES. The world really is like 6,000 years old. None of the races "evolved" to how they are to day. It's all explained by MAGIC!™.

For me its an RP perspective. I can relate to "human" races better then beast races.

Every beast race character I tried to RP ended up falling short of the goals I wanted or I just lost touch with them. So now while RPing serious roles with other characters, I play beast races for fun.

And it took me a while to finally create a khajiit I liked. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/images/389086/?

I tried to make an argonian. he didn't make it out of Helgen before I was bored of him.

He's gorgeous. And that's coming from a guy. :P

Very sixy Khajiit indeed.

*Nosebleeds*

Hmm, I never had trouble with the beast races, I can easily Rp as one with no trouble at all. Plus I love how they looked in Skyrim, a huge improvement over Oblivion!

Something about their necks.

I use to play them in the other games. But Skyrim, their necks give me hideous goosebumps and I can go no further in customization.
