why the COD hate?

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 4:00 am

so i pre-ordered brink and followed the news everyday leading up to its release. as we all know there was alot of issues with brink release but im not here to bash it. actually ive been playing brink all day.
ANYWAYS! i was watching alot of reviews about brink on youtube and reading alot of the reviews and i saw sooo much call of duty hatred. i started playing black ops online about 3 months ago and i think its a blast, im not very good at it but its still enjoyable. so i was a lil confused about why everyone was bashing COD so hard. seriously! go watch some brink reviews and look at the comments.

http://youtu.be/BrHjmMJJ-fg

i dunno. i just want someone to enlighten me on why everyone flipped about a fairly honest review about Brink.

The only sensible solution is to stop listening to youtube comments.

Because it's played out? Aged and tired? Needs a reboot? Some innovation? A new publisher?

People hate popular things. It's the way of life.

People who don't play it hate it because it's so popular. And a lot of people who do play it complain about it when it doesn't meet the enormous expectations generated by hype.

Activision don't really do themselves any favours with the whole annual release thing though. People are bound to get sick of it, and would probably appreciate the games more if they were released once every two years instead.

Anyway, personally... I think MW1 was amazing. World at War was great. MW2 was okay but a bit of a mess, and Black Ops was disappointing.

They killed Guitar Hero and they'll eventually run CoD into the ground as well.

I hate YouTube comments. Can't even be bothered to look at them. It's just a troll-fest.

The THPS series was exhausted too to some extent. They do love milking their biggest franchises to death...

Because Activision comes out with a [censored] game every year instead of doing something good.

That was a good thing if you ask me. I was tired of seeing traveling minstrels at my school :P

Yup, it's the same stuff, different game. They really don't do much different in the games, plus the campaign is usually pretty boring.

Why do you care about people's opinions about something you love or like? Ignore them and continue what you are doing. Play it proudly ! Activision still gets me to get their games and I won't be surprised if I get MW3.

And sadly this is the reason why Activision will continue to get away without innovating.

We know you don't like the game. But a good majority do. So it shouldn't be a big deal to you.

For me its because people talk about Black Ops like its either:

A: A radical test of skill. (Use Ghost and a Silencer... I rest my case)

or

B: A great military sim thats just like real life. (No, just.. no.)

What is, is a dumbed down FPS arcade style game. Thats all it is.

Because an rpg game related forum is going to have a ton of fps lovers? And represents the whole gaming community. Yeah, okay.

Yea, but I noticed you single me out in these threads and i'm being more than fair saying it lacks innovation while others are saying things like it's a "dumbed down fps".

Well I wouldn't being playing COD if there was a good 007 game out with a community that isn't 100 people. I just don't like battlefield and other games. I know COD is far from what I loved that was 007 nightfire. I am not going to get another game like Nightfire ever again most likely. Also, I need my friends to have it as well. I think we all find a game more fun if we play with friends. I don't want to play a online FPS all the time by myself. It is not a problem of quality it is a problem that my friends can't find better games.

People hate it because it is an insanely popular, plug and play, multiplayer shooter that's easy to pick up. I still like the series and play it often, but agree with others when they say the title is is sore need of a reboot. But what do I know? I like WaW :)

The thing with popular games, and one of the reasons people who dislike something hate it all the more when it becomes popular, is that it becomes the thing to be. The industry is trying to make money, and will inevitably try to copy whatever is succeeding at that, while the company that owns it is unlikely to deviate and will probably start watering it down with flimsy sequels to make more money off the name just because they can. People don't want the game to be supported, because the company is going to keep making them, and others are going to keep copying it.

Because CoD is like a dead cow, and they just keep milking it. They haven't made a decent one since 4 and they've become insanely rushed. I would go more into detail but Rhekarid said exactly what I was thinking and phrased it even better.
