Why the devs aren't participating to discussions?

Post » Mon Jan 31, 2011 7:33 pm

Lol you cant expect an honest answer to a question like that on a site that belongs to the company hes working for.

So..instead ask for his cell number, then feed that to the internet.

Then by the end of this endevor we'll either have answers to skyrim questions, or he'll have to sacrifice his phone. muahahaha

It was a joke, unless a developer wants to answer honestly that Todd is a good person. Of course I don't expect an employee to slander their boss on forums run by the company he's head of :P

Off topic, but I do have the cell phone number of Jonathan Coulton. I'm too scared to try it, but a friend of mine did get his voicemail :P

This has to be, I can't believe that the Skyrim forums already have more posts than the Oblivion forums, and are aprouching the topics count. I just can't, as incredible as Skyrim is. :P

As an asside, how long do you think it'll be before the Skyrim forum hits 1, 000, 000 posts? At this rate, we'll make it before Skyrim even comes out.

Nah. I think it's completely possible. Skyrim has all of the TES fans, plus a large chunk of the Fallout fans, plus some people who just wandered in from other games maybe. It's a MUCH larger fanbase and still growing rapidly. What I can't wait for is all these people to get into modding the game. :D

Bethesda isn't an indie development team, whatever they say regarding the game, how little it may be, must be said at the right time in the right way. Publisher's aren't there for show, they have detailed plans regarding marketing and feature announcement road-maps that will maximize awareness and impact. An excited employee in a forum thread could ruin the timeline. If you want developer interaction go check out indie RPGs like Age of Decadence and Dead State, but there's just too much red tape for this to happen with AAA development studios.

Kextra, Bioware is a AAA studio and there devs constantly talk on the forums, even the head developers, writers, artists you name it. They are incredible at communicating with the fans.

Well for me DA2 was a flop compared to Origins. To each their own.

Same with Behemia Interactive for us (Arma 2). It's because we make better bullet ballistics than they do... heh, and ambient civilians. They come by, have a chat (normally about random crap, ignoring every game suggestions) then leave.

You know, I've never imagined Todd as a very intimidating or demanding person. I have no idea why. At the risk of your own job, is Todd Howard a nice boss? :P

He's the best boss ever!!!!

Actually, in all honesty, Todd is the best boss Ive ever had. Aside from that as an individual he is a very personable and funny guy. I cant imagine anyone that wouldnt like him if they met. I joke around but hes definitely very cool and open minded to alot of things. He is however ruthless in ncaa football and those types of games. Grown men have cried because of that

And the few here aren't a large enough demographic to really affect sales....or the revenue generated by "exclussives"

DING! They're under nondisclosure agreements and can't release any game related info. Well, unless it's cleared through PR (assuming the latter)

It wasn't always this way. During Oblivion's development, there were many devs around talking about stuff in the game. *Sigh* I miss MSFD...he was a goldmine! ) I'm not sure what the timing was in relation to release, maybe interaction will increase towards the game's release.

(Note: Typing on a touchscreen) As stated a million times by both Pete and others, then reiterated by forum members.

Because of the outcry and backlashes against Bethesda after Oblivion's release due to them not being able to push in a lot of the tech demoed, Beth decided this time around the flow of info would be smaller and more official(ie Most of what they'll mention HAS to be slated for the game.) and as we see now it wasn't that Beth was lazy on Oblivion, their modified gamebryo engine couldn't handle it.

Kind of brought on by the internet and forum members themselves. I won't bother asking if your happy with yourselves.

That is pretty funny :) You get +1 internets for innovation. You will get another +1 internets if you actually know Morse Code and did that without help :)

Maybe there to busy working on the game?

Hehe, hope so.

More dev communication on the forum would be great, but I don't really see it as something that's really needed. Most of the stuff we would want them to talk about they probably aren't allowed to any way.
