Why the devs aren't participating to discussions?

Have you seen how closely people cling to the words of the devs? Pete will tweet something vague that says nothing and people will take it as unquestionable fact and confirmation of everything. I wouldn't post if I was a developer either. There's also probably not that much to say. Most topics are just requesting things and asking if things are in, most devs probably don't have the freedom to say, or could give out wrong information by mistake. Maybe today werewolves aren't in, but in a few months, they've added them, but if a dev confirms that as of today, no werewolves, people will be going around saying "no werewolves" for months to come.

I'm not bothered, really. Sometimes they just can't talk about things, especially this far out from release. Who knows how much may change between now and then; maybe they don't even know.

I trust Bethesda, it may all be PR sure, but the way they talk about how much they just like making games makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Basically, what I'm saying is, devs not present on the forums are busy working on developing the game and that is A-Ok by me :)

Devs are still busy making the game that's the main reason why you don't really see them on the forum. I mean Todd Howard posts what once in a blue moon, heck if he posted more often then that I'd almost have to declare he's trying to "Peter" the game up. I wouldn't worry I bet someone is always assigned to see the forum at least 2 to 3 times a day looking for interesting topics to talk at the water cooler or possibly in meetings.

5 and a half years is plenty of time but I don't want my character falling through a floor in a random dungeon because a Dev was too busy reading the "Adoring Fan needs to be in Skyrim thread it's over 9000 topic". It happened in Fort Wooden Hand hopefully it won't happen again. I'm not saying that Devs visiting the forums is bad it's actually quite the opposite I love hearing their opinion as I find it interesting and it could possibly provide either information about Skyrim or a possible Mindset on the game.

I don't know I guess my expections are high for Skyrim since it's the next Elder Scrolls game after Oblivion.

Nope.

But seriously, it's kinda hard not to love these guys when they labour [15?!] hours a day so that you can play a videogame. Oh wait, I mean the videogame.

I think my earlier post still stands. Devs are probably working hard, but 'they're making the game' isn't a reason for most them to not check for 5 minutes a day. So many probably like to separate themselves and spend their spare time living ordinary life. Whereas others may not trust themselves to slip up, especially since the 99.9% of stuff here is potential content.

It's somewhat reassuring to know that the devs are lurking the forums. I know I would, if I worked on an artistic product anticipated by so many. I hope the closer the release date, the more dev input on the forums we get. Q&A threads would be great.

Me too. Perhaps what aspects of the game excite the devs the most, and what it's like making the game on a day to day basis.

Agreed. Many times you may only have a few devs watching the forums but they pass along all the interesting discussions/ideas to many other people on the development teams. That's the way I've seen it done. Helps to filter out the noise for folk that aren't swimming in spare time but still gets the information, and any actionable ideas, where they are needed. A product such as a game that has such a strong need for feedback while still in the design phase probably has people on the design and development teams that as part of their job are responsible for monitoring the forums and passing along information. Just because a dev may not be able to post directly to a forum doesn't mean that they don't feed information to the people that do make public announcements.

I've noticed over the years that when the devs start watching a thread, all talk about the topic stops, and talk about the devs begins, totally derailing the thread for a while. Oddly enough, this thread is about the devs, making my point moot. Carry on.

In the Gothic forums there were nice dev interventions. Pretty long posts, explaining things, why they chose x technique over y, why a feature that people were demanding would not work in the game. Feedback is always nice both ways. Ok, maybe that community was smaller, small business are more inclined to cater their groupies. We have a pretty angry mob here sometimes. I can still see some dev contribution in the controversial threads, though. Like the one with the wind mill
I wouldn't call that a disclosure if the dev who designed the mill clarified why it's spinning one way or another.

If you were a dev, would you want to hang out in a forum where 80% of the comments are people telling you how to do your job or that you outright svck? Another 10% hang on your every word, sometimes to the point of creepy obsession. I'm sure that they know their faults, but the atmosphere around here isn't exactly what I'd want to come home to after a 10 hour day.
