Why do the dogs look [censored]?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 1:32 pm

OK so I was looking for a dog that I could buy. Well I found one an his name is Vigilance. He is a good fighter and all but he is FUGLY. I was looking for a dog that looked like a wolf or german shepard but all TAME dogs are the same dog with a different name. It pisses me off that Bethesda didn't add different breeds of dogs. I stillapreciate the majesty and awesomeness of the game but if I could name one problem of the game the only thing that comes to mind is that. Does anyone agree with me? Does anyone want this in the DLC?

EDIT: Wow I forgot that it sensors stuff

I'm not really surprised that particular regions in Tamriel breed only a certain type of dog. This type of dog is inspired by the Irish Wolfhound. I do agree that maybe some other breeds that would originate from northern and colder climates should be available.

Get a zombie wolf :)

I don't think the dogs look that bad. I mean, sure, they look filthy and like they've all been rescued from a sewer, but I don't mind. I wouldn't want a dog that looks overly refined and trimmed, anyway. I want one that looks like he can bite so it hurts.

Generations of dogs living on their drunken masters' spilled ale has resulted in an unkempt population of canines in Skyrim.

I want a pet bear, a wolf as well would be nice. A quest where you could get a bear cub that you raise could be interesting, you could carry it around on your back. Then when its big enough you get a savage beast that you could ride.

It is a variant of the Irish Wolfhound from what I hear.

Or just lazy devs waiting for the modders to add something worthwhile...

To be honest, I have precisely zero interest in buying pets in the game. If I wanted to mess about with fluff like that, I'd go and play some crap like The Sims. ;)

Same goes for marriage too!

There's an wasy explaination for that:

Tamrielic dogs have always [censored] on every [censored] they [censored] to come across, causing their [censored] to be naturally reflected on their mane, which may lead to [censored] and other missconceptions, like [censored] on a [censored] with a [censored] before the [censored] [censored] [censored]. Hope I made It clear.

I think the dogs look fine. I do however think a little variety in their fur color would have been nice. But I can see why the Devs choose to use the Irish Wolfhound as the breed. Some scholars believe a cousin of the Irish Wolfhound was used with the Vikings. And hell Kings like Henry the VIII had these for hunting.

But there just not that good in combat, more of a distraction and they love blocking doorways so you cannot get through.

I agree, the Irish Wolfhound isn't the...best looking breed out there. Although, it might have been better if they had captured the Irish Wolfhound's size, they're the largest dog breed and can tower over their owners if standing on their back legs.

If I ever had a need for a dog, I'd like to put some war paint on it.

Zombie wolves work for me.

It's an Irish wolfhound, a hunting dog. And I think he looks awesome. I did want a huskie at first, but that's really a cliche anyway.

At least the dog has a personality in this one, and does something other than panting. I'm looking at you, Dogmeat.

I never had interest in a dog in real life (more a spider/snake/lizard/etc) kind of person myself, but these kind of options are good in games. I would have like to see more animals you could buy - owning dogs, hawks, horses etc certainly would fit the feel of the game (the Romans were quite fond of their exotic beasts, having them around was a sign of social status). Such things were a source of pride IRL amongst cultures like the Nords/Empire.

Here there could be even more options, due to the fantastical nature of it (if I could have a spider as large as a dog as a pet = awesome!).

But it isn't a huge complaint (or a complaint at all for me), just one of those "wouldn't it be cool if..." things.

To be honest, I have precisely zero interest in buying pets in the game. If I wanted to mess about with fluff like that, I'd go and play some crap like The Sims. ;)

Silly, options well implamented in an RPG that a player is under no compulsion to use or utilyze aren't a bad thing. You don't want to buy pets, then don't. Presto! Like magic!

At least you can look at him, I sent him out for ammo and never saw the [censored] again.

I actually bought the damn dog and used him for a couple of hours. While initially, this seemed like a good idea, the reality was that he was a pain in the ass and quickly made me send him back home.

While in narrow spaces, he was always getting in my way and making it hard for me to move around. I would end up stuck in a room with him at the doorway, or blocking me in a cave passageway and getting me killed cause I couldn't move around him. Lydia will move if you bump her, but the dog will not.

Additionally, I shot him a number of times and killed him because he jumps up on the targets for his attack just about the time I let loose with an arrow. It was hard enough to get around Lydia being in the way, but the dog added to the mix made it pretty untenable.

Just my .02 cents......
