Why is the Enclave always hostile?

So basically, nobody actually knows why. It`s all `I think`.

Perhaps the makers of FO3 will deign to tell us one day.

Its because the Enclave are elitist jerks who think everyone is un-clean other than them and vault dwellers. They shoot people because they look at them as not really people, more like animals. I mean, its not like they're shooting wastelanders for their dirty water and .32 pistols...

Because they're moronic, vile, evil, supremacist, genocidal monsters without any redeeming qualities.

It's a game, there doesn't need to be a reason.

Colonel Agustus and the Enclave came into my game way too late for them to be even a tiny threat to me. (I did pretty much every side quest first, hence the very high level I was at. 29) Fallout 3's main antagonist is Colonel Agustus, but I think he is not around in the game that long to even consider him a main character.
