why is the game so graphically sub-par?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 5:01 am

It's a console port. It was made for consoles primaraly and then copy-pasted to PC's. They don't even allow you to rebind keys. No FOV slider, mouse acceleration all over the place. It's a joke. It's like they don't even have playtesters for PC version, because this nonsense would've been spotted 10 seconds into the game.

Most ambitious project ever. Yeah, right.

If you're only playing for the graphics quality, then you're missing the point of playing Fallout at all. Yea the graphics look last-gen and there are bugs and glitches and so on but guess what? Witcher 3 had the same issues. All games built on such a massive scale are going to take time to refine. Im pleased with the game so far and can honestly say it was well worth the wait.

Except CD Project patches their game incredibly freaquently and are amazing at responding @ the forums. This game will recieve some patches, but the heavy lifting will as always be done by modders. Because they are a free labor force to fix stuff right.

Witcher 3 will disagree with you :/

Just the amount of loading screens we get on Fallout 4 proves how old this engine is.

Gameplay can't save a old engine.

Is just Stockholm syndrome.

Why dont we wait and see how Bethesda addresses the issues before passing judgment. And yes CDPR does a great job of pushing out patches and updates quickly, but also they have to re-patch things sometimes because they pushed them out the door too quickly.

What's the syndrome for having a moan when the developers released a game but failed to consult you personally about your individual quirks that would make the game absolutely perfect for nobody but you?

Oh yeah... "Bethesda Syndrome".

And it started waaay before "Fallout 4".

The graphics are [censored]. I'm sorry but if you can't see it, you need a better monitor. The textures are inexcusable, not to mention the LOD textures are bugged. The lighting/shadows are bugged as well and often times completely missing from certain objects. Anybody sticking up for this sad excuse of a game is simply biased and probably doesn't know what a good game even is. And no, the gameplay/story doesn't make up for it. Not with 4. It did with 3/NV, but 4 is a joke. Bad gameplay, bad graphics, bad story, bad dialogue options, all around just a bad Fallout game.

EDIT: I think I will go around tonight taking screenshots of the horrible textures I see everywhere. I play at 4k so the bad textures stick out like a sore thumb for me. Hopefully you all will be able to tell from high res screenshots how horrible the textures are because I know not everybody plays at high res. I can count on one hand all of the good looking textures I've seen. The rest are junk.

Because I was around Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout and so on.

Bethesda never changes. Release game, support it for a year with small patches here and there. Release a bunch of DLC. Some horse armor. Poof. Done. Now you modders fix the game and make it decent while we work on another "ambitious project"

What exactly is "broken" in the game?

The problem is some people are experiencing a bug where the resolution is lower than it should be based on your settings, so they think that's how the game actually looks. I've also seen a lot of whining from people playing on potatoes. There are some low textures, that's pretty much a given, they have to appeal to the lowest common denominator because quite a bit of their playerbase refuse to upgrade their systems.

What really tickles me is when people say skyrim looks better... haha.

It's just an LOD texture bug that makes the close LOD textures take forever to load. But even the close LOD textures look horrible after they finally load.

Don't play on a potato then because they look outstanding on my computer. Calling the graphics in this game sub-par and horrible is intellectually dishonest.

LOL!

Don't worry, I'll post tons of proof later tonight. And my computer a potato? LMAO. I play at 4k. Nice try though. Maybe upgrade your potato monitor and you'll be able to see the horrible texture resolutions.

There is no such thing as pointless junk in Fallout 4.....unless your ignoring all of the modding and home building.

Some of the graphic's do look good, well once I got used to the almost 'dusty?' look of everything, building, landscape (trees) most small items that you can interact with have good art, I've said it elsewhere the textures in many cases are 2048 x 2048? it's the sub par artwork that is the problem. They might as well have used 1K sizes in many cases and still maintained the same look and improved performance maybe? Having a great looking box of Sugar Bombs as an example and then seeing a non-descript drab raider to me does not make any sense. It does not add to the 'feel' or 'immersion' FO3 raiders had lower res textures but they looked like raiders the first ones I saw in Concord almost made me want to stop playing and wait until the Mod Texture Artists did their magic. Good to see some proper looking army fatigues and other stuff already out there, the first NPC I saw in what was supposed to be old army uniform stuff looked just as drab and colourless as those Concord raiders. Graphics as many have said are not the 'Key' issue in a good game but as they have bothered to use higher resolution graphics than say Skyrim Vanilla why could they not actually put the detailing and colour into them and make some good use out of them. The variation from well coloured, good artwork items in game to high res low artwork graphics is what contributes to what some people are calling Sub Par Graphics, Beth seems to think drab clothing (in some cases) equates to immersion in the Fallout Wastelands, Why?
