why the hell did you remove stats, bethesda?

Having to choose between: strength, agility, endurance, speed, willpower, intelligence, luck, etc. wich are influenced by the skills you used to level up is wayy more intereseting than putting 1 point in magicka, health and stamina... seriously...

They used to like having several main attributes too, but then they took an arrow in the knee.

People kept complaining on how complex and difficult it was to understand.

EDIT: I want it back.

I fail to see the complexity in this system :(

The names are gone, the functions are still here.

Strength: Damage is affected by skills, and carrying capacity by Stamina.
Endurance: Health
Intelligence: Magicka
Willpower: Major enchant
Agility: Not needed, and fairly useless
Speed: No longer needed, as all characters have a BALANCED run speed
Personality: Replaced by Speech, in it's entirety
Luck: Useless attribute is useless

Not to mention how the new system is more complex with 250+ perks.

So, good riddance. I'd rather have Skyrim's system than attributes.

See, the perks both LOOK and FEEL like the Crystarium in Final Fantasy XIII. How could the worst perk/ability system ever seen in a Final Fantasy game be good for an Elder Scrolls title.

The answer: It's not. They took meaningful level upgrades and turned them into a sort of linear ability system.

Never thought it was complex, down right boring, but never complex.

Attributes were clunky and a legacy of an outdated system.

Back in the old days, attributes were used because they were the primary stats. Strength determined your damage, dexterity your accuracy, and intellect your magic power.

Now in Skyrim, you have perks and skills that govern your character. Attributes are redundant. No point forcing attributes into the game just for the sake of it.

Not to mention the clunky leveling system, where you spend time micromanaging which skills you leveled in order to get x5 multipliers for your attributes. If you don't, your character may level up with bad stats.

It isn't about how useful it was, but about how interesting it was. Why would you remove an interesting system that works and has always been there?
I'd rather have Skyrim's perk system + the attributes. It wouldn't have been tougher for them too make, since it has always been there

They took meaningless numbers and changed them into complex webs of skills and improvements to your character that they achieve by improving specific skills, instead of sets of skills.

I can do it, too.

I prefer Skyrims system. IMO, TES needed a breath of fresh air. It was getting stale/boring. Sure, Skyrim will forever be dubbed the scape goat, but I think this perk system will do well for the series.

I've always found the post-Daggerfall implementation of attributes to be entirely boring.

It was real difficult to understand that every character should start with Endurance and Luck....

Attributes were crap, they annoyed the hell out of me since if i didnt train a certain group of skills then i would potentially under level or sometimes over level, good riddance to spreadsheet style stats.

so you find magicka, health and stamina more interesting than different attributes that have multiple effects on your character?

Percent or stats I just don't care.

The new perk limitation points however are new and resulted in much frustration of having to take my time of picking which perks I want to use instead of unlocking them when I raise each skill. A game shouldn't feel like work.

Perks aren't the problem. Boring perks are the problem. Novice to Master spell perks? Terrible idea. Perks to boost damage when you could just have it based on your skill level and save the trouble? Bad idea. Useless perks to get the perks you want? Terrible idea. You shouldn't be FORCED to lose potential abilities just to get through to another ability. How does your skill as a pugilist correlate to your ability to fall from great heights?

Also, i really liked the Luck Attribute. It boosted all your other skills. A luck enchantment in oblivion gave the equivalent of something like 116 stat increases, making it the most powerful attribute in the game, if utilized properly.

The Skyrim system makes much more sense for how it's geared towards catering to how people would prefer to play to strengths the way they'd like, instead of wasting time grinding a skill they'll never use just to better a given attribute per level.

The attribute set up as it was before was complicated, not complex. With how you can spec perks across different ways of playing a character, you have a lot more complexity and nuance to a single given character.

Yep. Not only do I have more control over my character's advancement, I also don't have to worry about being bogged down by nearly useless choices.

Perhaps...but I' prefer Skyrim's system where I don't have to level Endurance (read work around Oblviions backward leveling or take Spear/Medium Armor) as early as possible. Maybe they could have implemented attributes, but after Oblivion can you blame them for leaving them out?
