Why do the markers disappear in the G.E.C.K .?

Post » Fri Jan 14, 2011 9:51 am

I have a problem I never encountered before since I use the GECK :
When I load a mod, any mod, the light and furniture markers don't appear. The menu option is checked and if I uncheck and then recheck the box the markers reappear until I select an object. Then the marker for the object disappears and ALL the light markers too ( Only the "bulb" in the display screen, not the light itself).

I suppose it's a config issue, but it happened suddenly after some years of normal use and I really don't know what to do, I tried a search (perhaps a know bug) but found nothing.

Can someone help ?

Actually I have this exact same problem with my mod now, and I really don't know what I did to invoke it. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that we have fubar in our setups that makes this so. I couldn't find the issue, so I end up having the Show/Hide window open all the time in my 2nd monitor in the corner so I can check/uncheck the Markers box to get them back. Using 'M' doesn't do the trick for this issue.

Wish I could be more helpful, but I at least wanted you to know that your not alone. :)

I'm just getting back under-saddle with my mod after a medical leave, I'll hunt again to see if I can find the setting.

Cheers,

Could this be a case where deleting the GECKCustom.ini and GECKPrefs.ini might resolve the issue? Once those are deleted (or renamed for safety sake) the Geck will generate new ones with default settings the next time it is started.

I tried this too, but all was normal in the .ini files already and rebuilding them had no effect. Maximus, perhaps you could try this. (make a copy of the files before trying)

Things are back to normal now for me. I was able to reproduce the bug and correct it again,it happens each time I use several gourmet programs at the same time so I think it is a minor glitch associated with the graphic card ( In my case) , As I updated my graphic driver some weeks ago and never had this issue before It is probably the cause.

There was no fix needed, just turned the computer off power and started only the GECK immediately at the beginning of a new session. Then the bug is still there even if the dispay options are checked in the menu, and checking or unchecking the options do nothing. But the I/M keys do, this time ( they have no effect before turning the power off).

Well, it could be useful to know for someone, some day. Nothing can ever be perfectn this world was poorly made and bugged from the beginning. And I doubt we get a patch after all this time.

Yeah have same thing here. or I think so. light marker radius was hiding. and wouldn't show.
I was just ticking lights/markers and then selecting light in the render window, and unticking lights/markers, and then deselecting a light. some combo there of was what I was doing. can't remember exactly what I was doing.

Good call. =)

You know your Exactly right on this point, I never bothered to check to see if the problem was still there.

I just installed a new graphics card about a month ago, but have been away from the GECK since mid-March due to medical issues and havn't been doing much level design until recently when I got back. Sure enough, I just checked and the problem is Gone.

Clearly this is a GECK issue of some kind, though it surely must be a strange one!
