Is it because my character is not a temple member ?

Anybody the Ordinators dislike (that's pretty much anybody who isn't Temple or Redoran; and they especially detest the Imperial Cult and Mages Guild) gets that treatment. The Ordinators are responsible for decency and order, and they are gruff about it.

Pretty much-- yeah.

My last character was both Temple and Redoran, and I actually found myself missing the aggressive Ordinators. Instead of being hostile and suspicious, they were all fawning, simpering sycophants. ("May you find me worthy of your attention.") Sort of creepy, really.......

It's because they hate you.

Seriously.

Get their disposition up, by bribing or joining the temple/redoran.
See if they call you scum then. :)

If you've got half-decent Speechcraft you can easily sweet-talk 'em. Pretty funny especially if you're, say, a scruffy, suspicious-looking Khajiit Thief.

I'm the Redoran Archmaster and they still call me scum. I don't belong to any other factions at the moment, so it must be the Temple membership that's needed.

I'm Patriarch, but I'm also Primate and Arch-Mage. They respect me, but they don't kiss the ring.

If you have rank in some of the factions they hate (like Mages Guild), that will offset and leave you no better off than ordinary scum. Rank in Temple gives you a much bigger disposition boost, so that will always offset their built-in dislike of almost everybody else.

Ordinators have base disposition 40, and the "scum" line is said only below disposition 40. Personality below 50 or membership in any faction they dislike (which is everybody except Temple, Redoran, and Hlaalu) will give the "scum" line unless you have a stronger affinity with them.

I always thought their saying "If you've come for trouble, then you'll get more than you bargained for." could be a good deterrent quote used by the moderators on the forum :biglaugh: , if you want trouble, you'll get the banhammer :brokencomputer:

I'm personally a big fan of the Ordinators and High Ordinators. For starters, their armour is completely awesome, amongst my favourite in Morrowind GOTY, and their quotes are memorable. "Citizen!"

Unlike in real life, in computer games, I tend to find fanatics very interesting, Ordinators, being loyal supporters of the Tribunal Temple, and the Hammerites (Order of the Hammer) from the Thief Series who are devoted to their believes and the Master Builder.

I like the High Ordinators they are cool with me. And don't give the moderators any ideas.

They think everybody's scum. They can even like you and still think you're scum.

Agreed!

The Ordinators have always been one of my favorite aspects of Morrowind: armor, zealotry, insults, and all. Besides, who can ever get tired of hearing "We're watching you... scum." The sheer malice and condescension is so well spoken.

The ordinator's armor drew me in awe the first time I saw them, and feared them. But later when I finally got my hands on it I could NEVER get over the sweet look their butterfly pauldrons looked in combination with the glass on (and the equivalent ones in mournhold had even more of a butterfly effect to their pauldrons) I felt pretty badass slaying them all later on when I got bored...

then they really knew what a scum I was

If I ever become a security guard or something like that, I'm totally gonna' talk like an Ordinator to people.

Obviously, it's one of the few decent "perks" they get on an otherwise dull and boing job: insulting the citizens and passing tourists.

As annoying as it seems, I missed the derogatory remarks when my one character became a ranking Temple member with a stellar Personality as well. Having them "kiss up" feels really weird, and the game definitely doesn't need any more "Fargoths".

The female woodelf as an ordinator would be funny as hell. And gives me a good idea.
