Why is the release date 11/11/11?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 3:17 am

11 11 11

It's the best possible release date because of the dragon language (the dragons use their claws to write). Because of this you're going to remember the release date every time you see a dragon for the rest of your life. :)

Edit: So they just decided that by about that date they're going to have the game finished. And what would be the best release date? One written with dragon claws of course. Good advertising strategy.

What's crazy is that it's almost 1/4 year ago since the announcement. Time sure goes fast.

Because it's 6 of the same digits in the row. The game is actually completely finished and printed onto discs right now, they just like the date and wanna make us wait longer, obviously.

OR maybe they figured it's because the game was already due to be finished in November so they decided to make it a memorable date.

Is the game finished?
I got the impression it was still in development, at least to some degree.
In one of the interviews I listened to Todd talks about a lot of things that he wasn't sure would be in the game or not; that implied that they hadn't finished everything.

Wow, it's odd to think that it HAS been almost 1/4 of a year since the announcement. Time DOES fly when you waste it on the internet. :)

...

He was joking

I believe the game is still very much in development, and probably won't be finished until September/October time. Bethesda probably planned for the game to release sometime around mid-November as a result of various discussions (involving when the game was likely to be completed and the time of year that would yield the most sales), and chose 11.11.11 because it looks cool.

I love ActionHitman's suggestion that it's dragon clawmarks. It really does look like letters from the dragon alphabet they were showing. That's quite a good explanation of why the shape of the date somehow seems so appropriate to me.

But also, it's just memorable, especially for the memory-challenged (like myself). I am TERRIBLE with dates. Give a simpleton something simple.

I think because the only date they have mentioned is 11.11.11, the release date will be the same in the UK. If you choose 'english international' on the official site it rates the game using PEGI, which is a european rating system (rather than T or M or whatever it is in the US) and the release date still says 11.11.11. Unless I'm totally off.

Is it just picked to make us wait? Is it the time of an important event in Cyrodiil? Did they estimate that was the time to release it? I think it was a deadline just randomly selected but I'm not sure and that's why I'm asking.

Because they probably gathered at a meeting and Todd said "OK, how many months do you think we need before realese?". Everyone scratched their heads and gave their estimate. Then those estimates were meaned an it ended up that they needed to release late October or early November. Then they looked at a calendar, and found this cool date 11-11-11 that also happens to be a friday. That's how they picked it.

Like you have to get it the first day it gets out...

11-11-11 is cool, at least there's no confusion like in 10-11-11 if that means November 10th or October 11th. :D

There is at least one thing wrong with this statement. For one, the thing you quoted was not a statement.

Lol, touche.

Hello Kids,

Seems this is up for much dispute.

11-11-11 is, as already established, a friday. What better than having a bunch of people lining up on a Thrusday Night for a 12:00 AM Friday Release??? Media Attention and the fact that alot of people will take that Friday off to play all day - I know I am.

I got my 56" with Surround, L couch in basemant, wet bar fully stocked and a wife that knows not to bother me until the following Monday...

What about the tides? Tide comes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. Can't explain that.

But actually, someone like that would be pretty powerful believer in Nirn but not a raving lunatic, I dare you to go tell a spriggan that she evolved through some weird process it has never heard of. The spriggan would not waste time in reporting this blasmephy to her mommy and you know who that is!

Edit: Oh, and 11.11.11 is a cool date.

Well, Nirn is a creationist world in a sense. The men and mer were placed there directly by the gods. However, evolution in some form must exist because the races have changed, Nords evolved into Imperials, for example.
