Why the Remembrance Day release?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 11:59 am

I can only really think of 1 reason. Advertising. Nobody will forget a huge game released on Remembrance Day.

And it's a Friday!!!!

Er... What? Skyrim isn't a war game so it's not like their being disrespectful... Nor are they advertising it like "Hey! Come and get this game on Veteran's Day! We have no souls!". Just sayin' you may be a little over-sensitive on this one.

Edit: Ahh, okay. Obvious troll is obvious.

What country do you live in? Here it's either veterans day or armistice day (only rarely used)

or its because 11.11.11 is hard to forget since its easy to remember and gives them enough production time

Edit: It could of been ANZAC day here and I don't think anyone would find that shallow since their obviously just picked a date that suits them and I would think that would be counted as shallow or as a scheme from the PR team

Lol, I didn't mean to sound so touchy in my post, I really don't mind, don't know why I brought up the shallow thing... :P

I'm just wondering why that day, and why a Friday? I mean, it'll let people get the weekend to play it non-stop, but stores will only have it for 1 day before the weekend... Anyways. :D

You have a point there. Usually games are released on a Tuesday or something. Still, I suppose they have their reasons.

Oh look, this thread again.
It doesn't matter when they release it. They released it on 11-11-11 specifically because Todd Howard thought to himself, "Man, that's a cool day. 11-11-11. I want to release our game on that date."
Stated himself, and reinforced by Pete Hines. That's the only reason.

I live in the only town with a major WWI memorial on earth, and I attend the crap out of the ceremonies there, especially for Frank Buckles who just passed away. I can guarantee you I will be there at the museum and memorial in the afternoon, and playing the Skyrim game in the evening.

It's an interesting system of classifying people. Those who have met Rick, and those who haven't. I've heard it's a highly illogical system.

Pete tweeted that one of the reasons for the friday release is because it's a standard release day in Europe. He said..."That's a standard release day in Europe though, so it made a simultaneous WW release day possible."

So it made it possible for a simultaneous worldwide release.

While it is a little poor, it's better than having a call of duty game come out on remembrance day like it did a few years ago. All the big news stations covered it. I guess that's why they did it, free coverage. It IS a day to play after you pay your respects though.

Fortunately, I couldn't care less for those american "celebrations". And you must admit 11/11/11 is catchy.

I think Europe and maybe Canada have the launch a day or two afterwards. As it stands in the U.S. And seeing as Bethesda is an American game studio based in Maryland. Well you get the picture. 11/11/11 has no holiday or events for the nation far as I'm aware of. This goes for tons of non-European nations. Correction, Western European nations as they mostly have the spotlight. Not to say the others don't observe Remembrance day or something else. WWI is an important event for the Commonwealth with other nations includex. The U.S. Doesn't just single their deaths out though. As for myself, I find WWI the stupidest modern war in our known history. The highest death toll in our races history shadowed by WWII. And the conflict/start of conflict was inherently greed and terrible diplomatic and military decisions that allowed for Ferdinands shooting to be so impactful. Mostly yeah the date was picked because it's sweet. Don't you love when reasons are so simple?(Get to work you crazy conspiracy theorists! Pete's watching soccer! There must be some hidden meaning in this activity!). Also lets avoid any bashing. You don't know how many "Yanks" are really just British-American "immigrants" and vice-versa. Crazy if you were yelling at your own 5th cousin twice removed on a video game series forum aye?

No just about every game gets launched in Canada on the same day as the US now. Think its mostly because of Gamestop but thats just a guess.

Edited my post heavily end of first page. And ah, I figured. Canadian launches usually are grouped into an NA release nowadays. Didn't want to be wrong though since I wasn't sure so put maybe. Anyways with respect to both poor soldiers and murderous soldiers who displayed our pure human nature to both be the kindest souls to slaughterers, respect and R.I.P. To those deserving, Those buying Skyrim on 11/11/11 should have a memorable time. Even better if the game delivers. Fingers crossed.

I thought it was because the date 11-11-11 only comes once every hundred years. It's the only date where all of the numbers are the same and It's the only time this century it will happen. Kind of epic. I'm sure Bethesda meant no disrespect to any specific days of importance.

I really don't think it matters what day they release it now. It could be released on Sunday and it would probably still sell just as well.
