Why is the upper level PvE content NDA still in place?

Post » Wed Feb 26, 2014 8:18 am

What does everyone think is the reason why the NDA is still in place for the upper-level PvE content?

Zenimax and Bethesda have gone out of their way to promote and sell the PvP content. In fact, that is pretty much all they talk about and all they want tested/played. Yet for some reason, the upper level PvE content - which is the true lifeblood of the game and is what will make the game a success or a failure - is completely off limits for discussion or widespread Beta testing. Why is that? Does the content stink and Z & B are simply protecting their game for as long as possible? Is there a harmless and less sinister reason for the continued NDA and lack of weekend Beta testing of upper level PvE content, such as not giving everything away for free? Is there another reason?

Please share your thoughts or reasoning on this issue because I am starting to become worried that storms are on the horizon as far as PvE is concerned.

I prefer content to actually be kept under wraps. I hate it when everything is known to the wide public before the content is even released on live servers.

Because it hasn't been on the beta test yet and probably won't be it is being tested by permanent testers. And lots of companies do the same its standard practice

That is perfectly fine but it doesn't explain the disparity between them promoting and pushing PvP content in every way imaginable while being extremely tight-lipped and protective of the PvE content. Do they think the public is/was skeptical of their ability to provide PvP content for this game so all of the hoopla and publicity for it has been to calm the naysayers and non-believers?

I can understand having an NDA for everything or having it for nothing. This in-between status where PvE is the only one of the two largely off limits concerns me.

PVE content can be spoiled and mapped out completely by the masses if it is let out from under wraps. PvP content relies more on the players and can change because of that thus it can be talked about more.

Well my 2cents would be that they are promoting the pvp so much because it looks unique, and even though i have heard others claim pve is the lifeblood of the game i think that advertising pvp is just more appealing to an audience.

Maybe they don't want to spoil surprises for us in PvE?

Maybe there are stuff, like Dark Fissures, that we don't know about?

(Kinda like Adventure Zones?)

BTW: The government isn't watching you, today. They were watching you yesterday, though.

Now this I can easily believe, especially given all of the focus on PvP content and architecture. Something had to be forsaken and upper level PvE content which would take players the longest time to reach would make an easy choice for a sacrifice.

I certainly want this to be true. I'm just not optimistic about it, though. I guess we'll know one way or another in about a month's time once this game is live and the fansite and media people who played the closed Beta start chiming in with their reviews and commentaries.

What few examples we've seen of this have not done credit to this theory.

for example Warhammer.

Honestly what's usually best is exposing people to both at roughly equal time. That way people can form equal opinion and reviews I've seen on games than are more open just generally seem more positive.

I doubt it. I don't think they would let people see end-game if it wasn't finish at all. And by that I mean no testers getting to that level.

Ratings on games usually come from two things after the fluff is done- how robust the PvE end-game is, and how dynamic PvP is, depending on the crowd. PvE usually gets more attention so leaving it out especially for reviewers who will report on this stuff soon would probably be very bad for business.

I doubt Firor would want to repeat Warhammer =P

Given that its been tested for the past year i think its safe to say its finished just needs refining for launch and this is a null discussion

The pvp is unique? Are we playing the same game? This type of pvp has been done a couple of times already.
