Why do they even let you become the leader of the faction?

So this has been on my mind a little bit lately. Why do the other high ranking people in the different factions allow you to be the leader?

Especially with the later games, where the quest lines are super short. You're always the newest member (unless they bring in some new followers for you to drag around). And as an adventurer you're always gone, and heck half the time the character doesn't even have the skill set to be qualified. (Like my warrior becoming the Archmage in Oblivion).

I know that it's fun to be the leader of a faction, I just think the way it's done is kinda weird.

Ok, some factions I can understand, the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim makes being the listener seem like something only a few people can do, not sure if it's something you're born with, but whatever. And the arena in Oblivion had a set-up that was simple enough. But most of the others just don't make sense in my head.

In Morrowind you had requirements which made a little bit more sense in my head, but I still feel like you became the leader really really fast. Well some leaders you defeated in duels and I guess you can have what you kill or whatever.

But anyways, what are your thoughts on this? Do you like it? Dislike it? Don't care?
