Why this LEAK is a deliberate marketing ploy..

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:09 am

This leak seems a bit fishy to me.

First off, EA has a very strict policy on Piracy. On the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 official forums news came out a few months ago that some files were leaked. They were available to download on torrent websites. As soon as these posts started appearing the moderators closed them down and said that if anyone discusses piracy etc they will be banned. Those forums are moderated by ppl under the instruction of EA. Nothing more was said. No official announcement was made that anything had been leaked.
So why would a moderator on these official forums, which are affiliated to EA, come on and announce to the world that: ''LEAKED BETA BUILD OF THE GAME HAS APPEARED ON TORRENTS.... PLEASE DONT DOWNLOAD (Wink Wink).... AND SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS..'' Basically, They are wanting ppl to download this torrent. As the beta isnt polished people will be like wow this game has potential and therefore ppl buy the whole game.

Second off, Nobody can get past level 3 in this leaked beta. Seems a bit convenient to me... A supposed leaked game that stops at level 3 conveniently.. why not level 13 for example.. All adding up so far.

Third off, this could be a conspiracy that allows crytek to stop productions for PC in the future. They will say: ''As we cannot trust the PC community as much we cannot keep giving up time on producing quality PC games as 'piracy' is destroying it...''

Fourth off, this could also be a ploy so they dont have to release the PC DEMO. Instead of breaking promises that there was going to be a PC demo they can now use the excuse that they are busy rectifying the Masterkey and that the Crytek personal have more important work on their hands if they are to meet the release date deadline!..

Just my 2 cents but i think it just seems fishy..

Flame suit engaged..

Or... it was leaked and a lot of devs are quite angry about working 9000 years of overtime for no apparent reason.

I don't buy conspiracy theories. There's no evidence that Crytek leaked the game and until I see the tapes I'm just gonna treat all these threads as ****.

1.) It's common knowledge that software developers work very long hours.

2.) You tell him not to say stupid things, which is funny because your first post is exceptionally stupid.

3.) I don't quite think you know what fanboy actually means.

4.) I think your tinfoil hat is on too tight.

Overall, you and the thread you have created are pretty fail.

Sorry but leaking an early build of a game that contains the entire single player campaign (its not just levels 1 and 2) is not going to be at the top of EAs marketing strategies.

Indeed, it definitely wasn't intentional.

Agreed, seems very suspicous to me, talking of pirated versions of a game on its own website is usually frowned upon by devs/mods. With a ban to anyone who does. Not here appearntly. lol

I think someone has been sitting on this beta waiting for the right moment to release it, look at the timing, soon after an announcement of a PC demo, the 'leak' has created a pirate-storm where everyone is pouring over it in lieu of the PC demo... and thankfully liking it and wanting more, if Crytek were to employ guerrilla marketing then this might be a good way of actually making the 'full' game more desirable, but they would never admit it, will the official PC demo arrive? more than likely... but we are so close to a release date, this is just wetting my appetite for the final version of the game which i want to buy and enjoy, we can speculate, but in just over a months time... who's gonna care?

Well the problem is they may have released it, I doubt it but now it's just more ammunition against PC gamers.

Crysis 2 just jumped from not even being in game spots top ten most popular to being number 2. From what I've seen on Youtube nobody seriously interested in Crysis 2 is gonna settle for the beta.

I don't think it's such a big blow to Crytek

Aside from the crippled graphics there's no way IMO you are going to be able to get MP on this and the enemies in SP seem to have incomplete or non existent AI in many cases.

As for Cryengine 3 being included IMO Crytek giving it away for non-commercial use is a foregone conclusion, because Epics UDK is free to download for non-commercial use and this engine is already the more established of the two so Crytek is playing catch up getting new and old talent to adopt the platform.

And as far as the DRM key I have no idea but I suspect this can be fixed.

No. The use of language online often follows its own rules and it's common to use 'fail' as a singular verb. As an example - this thread is fail. Oh and there's an apostrophe in don't.

The leak is your long awaited PC demo. Enjoy.

And I don't see the problem. I wish they would do more advertising for this damn game, I'm only in for the Multiplayer.

I just posted something similar and now I see your post. You are right. Leak is deliberate. How can an employee threatening his career and freedom by putting at public free acces a software that brings tons of dollars to the owners? This is not childs play! This is serious s..t. And, you think the software (aka the Crisys 2 game) just lies there on the desks and unprotected PCs, waiting to be taken by anyone passing by (aka Matilda, the cleaning lady or Boby, the donuts guy, or... maybe it's the russian guy... yeap, he is the number one suspect)?

The more you go into the leak, the more curiosly placed lockouts you find. They have let us into what they don't mind us getting, while locking us out of places that might affect their sales. For instance, Full Screen is locked out on the editor, so you can't really use it to play the game, unless you don't mind a tiny screen. Yeah, this was deliberately leaked by someone internal, and not as a grudge or from a stolen laptop, etc. This was a deliberate ploy.

it was not intentional .Grow up!
No developer wants their game to come out unfinished
They prefer to show u a well made demo
Their security measures just failed .Its bad that this happened to crytek but from now on they will be ten times more careful

One thing that should grab everyone's attention is this. The title of the thread they posted about it, "Early unfinished build of Crysis 2 appears on torrent site". Why would they post that and not add "WARNING" of linking to it, discussing it, posting screens/video of it. When this occurs with other games they post warnings of BAN if any of the aformentioned happens. Therefor it is a DILBERATE attempt at marketing the game, PERIODS..............

can't **** a ****.

And with so much commotion about the PC demo, seems viable to "secretly release" a beta build to stop the bleeding on these forums.
