Why was I forced to join Boethiah cult

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:09 am

I made a character and got on this sort of "Justicar" RP story, 'banishing' evil and not submitting to the whims of the Daedra. I avoided certain quests and did what I had to do to cancel some of them
Spoiler
(killed Astrid when she tried to recruit me for the Dark Brotherhood therefore cancelling the quest to kill the captives)
.

I could say it was going well, not a quest on my journal that I didnt want to do. However, just today here at level 37, I ran into this shrine, upon approaching it I got a quest stuck on my journal to speak/investigate the Boethiah cult. So I did, hoping I would be able to shrug it off/deny it as I did the others. However, there was no such option. I could deny the cultist, but the quest remained stuck there waiting for me to return. And so I tried to resort to the spoiler mentioned above, I tried to kill all of them evil-doers to rid myself of the quest.

And so I did. But to no avail, right when the last one died I got this sudden "vision" and Boethiah came out of nowhere and spoke to me and forced me yet again, to accept the quest to drag someone to the altar for sacrifice. Now there is no way I can avoid it without going out of my far-gotten RP storyline. I am saddened.

You aren't forced at all, it's your choice.

I dont think you guys realize how annoying it is to have a quest you dont want on your quest log. Like having a thorn on your skin. Just like when they made you accept the quest for Winterhold College and Thieves Guild.

Can you add a vigil of stendarr as your companion? Of not I wonder if it can be done via the console.

I'd love to sacrifice one; I despise the premise that a bunch of mages wearing nothing but robes could be effective at hunting dremora and/or other nasties. Any creature with decent damage resistance would pummel them. They should have been a group of armoured Battlemages at the very least.

EDIT: what the hell is wrong with you? 'thorn in your skin'? really?

Did the same and hoped i would be rewarded for being awsome.
Awell, if there's anything more convincing than an evil god threatening you, i don't wanto know about it.
Still, you can always just ignore the quest

Deal with it!

It's only annoying because you allow it to annoy you.

I used to be like that, but i got over it all you have to do is click off the quest in your journal and there isn't even a marker on the map to bother you.

Just because it stays in your journal doesn't mean you have to do it. Say (IRL) screw you Boethiah, I wont do it, then go about your business.

If you kill them, then just ignore Boethiah basically.

Deal with it!

It's only annoying because you allow it to annoy you.

The correct answer.

That's not something I count as a major annoyance. Maybe you should try to loosen up a little?

And I believe it's not about whether people realize something or not. I think other people have experienced having a quest they don't intend to complete. Granted, it would be nice to be able to abandon or hide quests you don't feel you want to carry out, but it's not like you're forced to do anything. So again, if the only problem here is that you're "annoyed" by the quest in your log, maybe it's not the game's fault.

By this logic, if someone tells you to smoke pot, that makes you a druggy.

Not really, its different from what I am saying. Whats the point of the game if not to complete the journal of quests you have to do? The game FORCES you to undertake quests you dont want. Completely kills the immersion on my part.

A quest simply being in your questlog doesn't mean you have to do it, this means nothing is 'forcing' you except your OCD on the matter.

If the game stops everything until you complete the quest, if the game makes you walk to X and do Y, then it's forcing you. Really now, just get over it.

I feel a similar feeling about quests. I do hate that I have evil quests uncompleted in my Quest inventory. But I just do what many say and try and ignore it. I wish they separated quests into Good/Evil or Maybe Neutral as well. Just so I don't accidentally continue on an evil quest haha. Or maybe an option to hide quests you don't want to do, or even cancel them. It's fustrating when I try to role-play as a good character and get told to visit the College of Winterhold on my non-mage or Thieves guild on my bad guy. But I'm getting over it now. I just think the quests are not a "To-do list" but just a book of options. The quest log is like saying what I could do and what I have done. That way instead of a list that tells me what to do it's just a journal with all the things possible. And for all the evil quests in my log it's like showing the ones I refused to do because I'm not evil nor curious about evil. The only problem with me is I have trouble deciding what evil quests are haha.

Well, it's possible to ignore it. But i'm annoyed too with quests filling my quest log that I don't want to do. Makes in tedious to find the quests I want and looks messy.
An option to set some quests to "hide" and then a toggle for what quests to show and which ones to not. A small button or something hat had alternatives.
"Show all quests"
"Show only actve quests"
"Show hidden quests"'

Possible, no?

Then you better not go near enough anyone to pick up rumors. Why does it matter if you picked up a quest you have no intention of completing? No big deal.

It's annoying to have some quest you didn't want to do in your journal. This annoys me in this game as it annoy me in previous ones. Well, not really, the more you used to this, the less it will annoy you. Just ignore it, or better, consider them a reminder of such a baddass your character is, for not letting others decide for him/her.

The quest is there for if you desire to complete it. I think your being overly OCD about a simple mechanic. It really isn't forcing you to undertake anything, it's giving you an option to do it or not by putting it in your log.

Just because someone drops a gun off at my door step doesn't mean I HAVE to use it. My own choices will deem wether I will or not.
