Why will you buy skyrim? Or why not?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:08 pm

I will buy it because I know it will be a superb game. I will buy it when it's released in Europe(Is it 11.11.11or 30.11.11?). I'm gonna make my friends try it when I've bought it. And the price is just going to be 500 SEK (50£)

Release in 11-11-11 (MM-DD-YY) in U.S. and 11-11-11 (DD-MM-YY) in the rest of the World... Same day so.

Our American friends are a special and funny people, they like to use different measures in dates, temperature, distance (feet, inches, lol...) and weight from the rest of the world... Like I said, funny people...

Just kidding...

Well, let's see:

- Skyrim is a Medieval Fantasy RPG (and I love those).
- Skyrim is a First-person RPG (and I love those as well).
- Skyrim is, to most game critics, one of the 10 or 20 most anticipated games of 2011, if not the most.
- Skyrim is the sequel to the best-selling PC RPG of all time, Oblivion.
- Skyrim just looks beyond awesome, even by someone (me) who's played hundreds of games and know the industry at its best.
- Skyrim doesn't have much competition (if any at all). All other RPGs are either inferior or just another game that I'm buying, e.g. Diablo 3 and Rage.
- Skyrim is a singleplayer game, i.e. no subscription fee = cheaper to play and keep playing. Makes me much more likely to buy it.
- Skyrim is the only solid game I know for a 2011 release that allows me to play as either a feline or reptilian humanoid.
- Skyrim allows you to finally combat dragons the way they should be fought.
- Skyrim is made by Bethesda Softworks, one of the very best game developers around.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy it.

Will I buy Skyrim? Um, HELL YES! What a silly question.

Why? Because TES is the greatest game series ever!! It was handcrafted by the gods at the top of Mount Olympus, delivered unto mortals by the grace of Zeus and the swiftness of Hermes, and all this after springing forth from the mind of the mighty Todd Howard, evil genius and Daedra Prince of Awesomeness.

:tes:

Yeah, I might be a little crazy... Perhaps I'm in this straight jacket and locked in a padded room for good reason? :P

I don't want to get any thread to get locked. To be honest, I enjoy reading the pettiness of the younger crowd :)
I find it amusing.
Take the original post: here you have a young fellow thinking reasons for not buying a video game are "stupid", and I have to assume on the youthfulness of the poster, because we are talking about a choice of buying a video game here: drinking and driving is stupid, getting a second mortgage on your home and flying to Vegas is stupid... but buying or not buying a video game hmmmmm :)

Then you have the other poster who cowboys up online. Come on, don't that me you laugh, or at least chuckle?.

A quick edit to add, I also enjoy reading the "fanboyism". Again, I find it amusing.

On the contrary, I love threads like this one, and when they get locked, it is a downer.

Your posts haven't reflected your age all that well either.
The OP said that reasons for people not to buy the game that he has read were stupid, and they are stupid, mostly.
Take Morrowind lovers for example. They are drowning in their own nostalgia that they can't see past the "action" in action RPG. As soon as they see a feature of an action game brought in, they freak, citing this feature as the reason they won't buy it.
Or that it doesn't have levitation or spears(I'm a spear fan btw).
Or that they are too proud to suffer through Steam or any DRM(I like the series and I will suffer through whatever DRM they use). The only legit reason I is that Steam(or another DRM) may not work on some PCs.

True.
Anyways, i'm pretty sure everyone on this forum will buy this game, even the people who love to whine, in the end they will buy the game.

And a very resounding Yes for these reasons...
And as far as the craziness issue. It's like my crazy uncle Sookie always said; "Crazy is as Crazy...Monkeys are stealing my underwear and the Cockroaches living in my socks are conspiring against me..." Awww sweet, sweet, memories...

I'm definately buying the game and anything that includes more in-game content, after all I liked Morrowind quite a bit, and Oblivion was probably my favorite game of all time. I could go really go on and on about why, but suffice to say that I loved the previous Elder Scrolls games, and have been waiting for ages for a true sequel (I won't even touch Fallout 3, namely because the Fallout series just doesn't interest me - and besides, that game was neither Oblivion nor Fallout from what I hear).

And besides, as long as they don't make multiple stupid changes (which I doubt will happen), I'll probably enjoy my inevitable purchase too. =)

I personally enjoy the elder scroll series.. I have been a fan since Morrowind and after playing that on the original xbox I went out and fixed / made my PC able to play and handle Daggerfall.. I love the sandbox game play and all the mythical creatures ( e g trolls, goblins, wraiths, imps, vampires, etc ).. I grow up watching movies like Legend, Lord of the rings cartoon movies, midnight summers dream etc..

Elder scrolls is your traditional RPG game and there isn't anything like it on the market.. sure their are a few but nothing to the degree imo as the Elder scroll series.. The game play that Bethesda does is top notch just like or if not better than Blizzard has done with their Diablo series or The World of Warcraft series.. I think as long Bethesda doesn't change too much of their core game play and make it easy like lets say the Dragon age series I really don't think I will be that disappointed.. As long the game remains "hardcoe".. I do believe in making the system better and tightening up loose ends so the game plays tighter like it sounds they are doing over there..

As of right now I will buy the game and spend countless hours playing it like I have done with Morrowind, Oblivion, Daggerfall and soon to be Skyrim... The only questions I have about the game is how long is the story mode and how long will the game all in all take to complete ( what I mean after the story mode how many hours will there be 3000 hrs like oblivion and a 300 hr story mode ?? ).. all my other worries or dislike ( which are minimal ) is how the new " perks " system is going to work out.. That is the only thing I really have a problem with because they are replacing the attributes & birth sign function in the game...

Over the top violence and gore that surpasses what Oblivion had will more than likely turn me away from this game.

I don't think Skyrim will feature over the top violence and gore like FO, but I do think the combat and overall feel of the game will be more brutal and rugged, which is good IMO.

I think it's high time that TES took a grittier turn.

If they implement dismemberment and don't have an option to disable it, I won't buy it until a dismemberment-disabling mod is released.

If they include sixual acts in the game, I won't buy it no matter what.

Otherwise, I will buy it, hopefully off of Steam.

LOL, you forgot naughty words. Sounds like an M rated game (which Skyrim WILL be) is not your kind of game. Maybe stick to the Wii if you are so worried about mature themes in your games.

There are very good reasons why those things are the way the are in America, and I could easily explain them to you, but I believe you would struggle to comprehend them. You don't sound overly bright................................and you live in Portugal.

I'm definitely going to pre-order the game, even though my elf-sense is tingling that I'm going to be somewhat disappointed with the default game.

The real selling point for me has always been the mods that make these games so customizable.

This is where I basically stand. From what I'm seeing of Skyrim, I'm probably going to be disappointed with the vanilla product, hence why I may not buy it on day one. But with the skill, talent, and imagination that the Bethesda modding community has, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned it into a game that I'd love to have, therefore encouraging me to buy the game later on.

Of course, I'll give the vanilla game a try first, but I doubt it'll stay vanilla for long.

Also, off topic, but I look forward to anything you may have in store for Skyrim, Arwen. Your Realism Tweaks for New Vegas are one of the main reasons why I really enjoy playing it again. :goodjob:

Why? I've been anticipating this game for quite a while, it is my most anticipated game of all time, it is a continuation of series whose core titles I have played all of (played Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion), and, specifically, I am buying it because it is the sequel to my favorite game of all time.

Oh, come on Summer, it's not like your going to have to buy it(yes, I know that Moderators here get free games from Beth) and your a PC so mods will tone it down to your liking.

Ah, but see, in the past I have given many copies as gifts and bought them all not to mention that I buy my own copy and one for my hubby. My free oblivion signed by the devs sits untouched and unplayed. ;) Of course...my buying it or not buying will make little difference and not even amount to a dent in sells. Never the less, I do stand by what I said.

So i found quite a bit of people here that will NOT buy skyrim for stupid reasons and such, so why will you buy skyrim? Or why not?

THis is quite possily the dumbest question I have ever seen. WE ARE ON SKYRIM FORUMS. You only come here if you are really interested in Skyrim. Even people who are looking to find more about a game, they dont come here. EVeryone is going to buy the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to be mean.

Will buy it if braindead Beth won't make a region lock, so like 4 countries can't download patches and DLCs like in case of New Vegas...

Wait...... your a mod for the forums and you might not get the game. Something is wrong with that picture. If you arent that interested it kind of feels like your job should be reserved for someone else. You are going to let over the top gore push you away?
