Why will you buy skyrim? Or why not?

Let me see, is this a Bethesda open world game? Yep, so I'll buy regardless.

No offense
I dislike how high spoiled some of the PC gamers seem to be. A console gamer doesn't get the 'benefits' of modding, and plays the game vanilla all the time. It annoys me. (Alot)

On topic:
I will buy the game because Bethesda is making it. FO3, OB and MW are all three greats games, and such a history makes me convinced that SR will be the same as before, very good.

well some people won't buy it because of steam, or not having spears or levitation, or having something like fallout 3 level of gore. some are rational in their decision not to buy it because they've had problems with steam or dont like gore or six in thier games, others are not so rational and whine about a feature being missing and say they wont buy it if that feature isnt in, even though most of the whiners will buy it anyway. I for one will buy it unless i can't run it on my computer, then after i get enough $$ and upgrade my computer ill buy it :)

However, I'll do so grudgingly if they don't add giant spider and wolf mounts, steam-powered Dwemer spear guns, full nordic trollbone armour sets, and a playable Sload race. I've thrown down the gauntlet, Bethesda! Grudgingly, you hear!?

I won't get it if its Steam only.

It won't, that would be limiting their potential market far too much. It sounds though like it will require a Steam activation, just like Fallout: New Vegas. I'm not crazy about that myself, which is another reason why I haven't bought New Vegas yet. I don't like the idea of any sort of online activation scheme. It does nothing to prevent piracy and just adds another layer of inconvenience for the honest user. So I'm certainly not going to reward Bethesda for taking that path and buying any of their games on release day. I'll wait until the GOTY edition, when their profit margin for a title will be considerably reduced.

Ill be getting it for the simple fact that it is a TES game. Even if there are things I don't like about it I play it and love it. If I find it inferior to other TES games (unlikely) I can always go back to them.

probably. but ever since Beth took over FO, ive been losing intrest TES. its everything i loved about oblivion, but with much cooler enemies (daedroth over deathclaw though, but other than that), setting, weapons, story, everything.
ill take a post apocalyptic wasteland and guns over elves and rats, forests, and magic any day.

if Steam activation is required then it is Steam only AKA Steamworks.
with Steam it's not just activation, it's activation & initial patching (which can be huge).

I will buy it because I know it will be a superb game. I will buy it when it's released in Europe(Is it 11.11.11or 30.11.11?). I'm gonna make my friends try it when I've bought it. And the price is just going to be 500 SEK (50£)

I bought it months ago. Just waiting on delivery.

I have neither seen nor heard anything, so far, that made me question the purchase.

Ive been actually putting some thought into the question of why I am buying, and I wanted to add to my previous bland answer.

1)Bethesda is one of the last developers/publishers that I have any real faith in.(DICE, Rockstar North and Valve are the others) In the last 2 years, I have stopped supporting Bioware, Bungie, Activision, EA(except for DICE) & Obsidian. That doesnt mean I wouldnt buy their games. I would buy them used and with excellent reviews ONLY.

2)Oblivion & Fallout 3 were bloody amazing. Oblivion was the first great game for the current generation of consoles and Fallout showed that Bethesda cared very much about the opinions, desires and critiques of their fans.(although bethesda has been showing that for years, this is when I noticed) Fallout was the continuation of what Bethesda had learned starting from Arena. Fallout was a test bed of new ideas, tweaks and fixes since Oblivion. Skyrim will be a response to Oblivion/Fallout3, as Oblivion was a response to Morrowind and so forth.

3)Bethesda's TES/Fallout series is pure bang for your buck. Just using Fallout 3 as an example. I played over 250 hours. So... $60 new game plus $20 for 2 expansions that I bought is $80. Thats .32 cents an hour, not bad. Oblivion was a similar situation. From what I understand, Morrowind & Daggerfall were the same for most that purchased them. Hell if I pretend that I only bought my 360 for Bethesda made games.... Lets see, $500 for new 360, $80 for Fallout & $60 for Oblivion, 500 hours of Bethesda fun.... Equals about $1.28 per hour... Nice!

4)Skyrim is looking great. I know many have been a bit miffed about some of the upcoming changes in Skyrim, but I have yet to hear or see anything that troubles me. Alot is due to the fact that Bethesda really seems to pay alot of attention to what the fans say and do(mods). To be honest, until I feel like im getting the short end of the stick, I will buy what Todd Howard is selling. Thank goodness Howard isnt Molyneux(whom i would love to meet) in so far as BULL CRAP HYPE is concerned. Its funny cause when you hear Molyneux talk it sounds like he is trying to sell you a car. But Howard actually sounds like he is talking to a fan.

5)I SAW THE TEASER TRAILER AND ALMOST CRIED! So I had to give Beth my money as soon as possible. lol (also the way things are I wasnt sure I would have the cash on the day of release, but I had it on the day after the announcement... so not a very hard choice to make)

6)I think its an rpg with dragons playing in the snow or something... MEH, good enough for me. :chaos:

Well... By 'Steam Only', I wasn't meaning Steamworks really, but rather Steam at all. Steam activation implies Steam (which is a given for the Steam version); but I will not be buying the Steam version of anything willingly. I bought FO:NV because Obsidian made it (and theoretically, Feargus and Chris Avellone ~and perhaps a few other ex FO2 devs would be involved; though I don't know of any others). I figured FO:NV would be the closest thing I could likely get to a Fallout inspired RPG. While not close enough IMO, it is what I expected, and I'm (mostly) happy with it.

To the point the OP was mocking, I agree. There are a lot of silly complaints made. I have to wonder if you won't buy Skyrim of all games simply because they include six, or multi-player, or remove attributes, or require steam, or whatever other reason, I have to wonder if you ever buy any video games at all considering the crap games the industry floods the market with these days. TES games are a true diamond in the rough.

I'll be buying Skyrim for a lot of reasons, I've liked previous entries in the series, what we've seen so far really excites me, and because I want to support Bethesda who really stand apart from most development companies these days. This game is gonna rock, hard.

Yes stupid reasons as in veiny arms and skimpy armor go look at the elven armor and tell me thats skimpy(I made a thread about that myself but then i looked closer at the stuff we have seen so far). Not to mention all the : 0mG ! w4Ntz ObLivion 2!!! or the 0mG ! w4Ntz m0rr0wind 2!!!

... yet, on the other hand, there's also a lot of "OmG W4Ntz SkYrimz!! b kuz itz Ep1K!!"

Is there a food you don't like? Or a color you don't like? Or a TV show you don't like? Or how about seeing a girl (or boy, whatever the case may be , I don't know your gender) you think is hot, then upon closer inspection, you see something she's wearing, or the size of her earlobes, maybe a uni-brow, or a mole on the on the other side of the face, and then you think "ugh"? Would you say the reasons you don't like such things are "stupid"? Or would you say is just a matter of personal taste, personal likes and dislikes?

I will buy Skyrim because I have all the Elder Scrolls and RPG - SP is my favorite game type.

Will be also one of the few games I will buy this year on release day (the other will be The Witcher 2) because I trust BGS will try to do the best game ever and hopefully with very few bugs.
