It's more of a geographical question than a gameplay one, but both cities are in Skyrim, so I thought 'why not'.

As far as I can tell, Windhelm is no higher than Solitude, nor is it further north, so why such a difference in the amount of snow? I've looked on the internet, but can't really find anything.
