Why wont my machine run Directx11 and high res textures?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 5:28 pm

Hi there,

My current system specs are

gtx 570
i7 2600 processor
8GB ram (1333)
solid state hard drive
power: 750
Downloaded the most recent video driver upgrade

in addition, using fraps, i was able to record the following frame rates (ALL WITH ULTRA SETTINGS)
1) with direct x 11 and high res textures off, FPS=40-50 even during action scenes
2) with direct x 11 off and high res textures on, FPS = 35-50 (including action scenes)
3) with direct x 11 on, and high res textures off FPS = low 20s to 30s/40s
4) with both ON, during action scenes, <20FPS

Also, i use Vsync ON because otherwise i get lines across the monitor (benq GL2440)

With these system setting, am i able to run crysis 2 with the new upgrade on ULTRA settings and the high resolution textures?? Because currently, it is not possible to due to lag/jerky response

Fraps eats FPS for lunch, even Counter Strike has 30 FPS when recording on my computer... And yes you can play, but you can't without lagg... You must lower the graphic options or put shaders and shadows to "High"!

I have a GTX570 with everything on ultra I lock the frame rate down to 30fps It's pretty much all a single 570 can handle at max settings. Try post processing on high and shaders set to extreme and lock the frame rate at 45 it's very playable and the fps holds up pretty well. (sys_maxfps 45) =) v_sync is a no go.

What problem?
set up fraps for 60 FPS recording And you will have no limitation on 30 in game with fraps on 30 fps. Fraps is limiting your FPS as you pointed in it. But this may cause bigger video-file, I don't remember quite for sure now.

LOL FRAPS doesn't limit the in-game FPS. It limits the FPS of the output video! The problem with this patch at the moment is the GPU companies, nV and AMD need to release DRIVERS FOR C2 DX11! Just be patient, your 570 should be enough. Imagine my frustration, 40-50 FPS w/ everything on with 2 XFX 6970!

Try changing your monitor refresh rate is your monitor 120hz ? Or you can try to force Triple Buffering on in the nvidia control panel. Or try r_vsync 2 is what the xbox uses.

so i went to my control panel and looked at the refresh rate for my monitor - i can go as high as 60hz only

i enabled triple buffering on the nvidia control panel and nothing improved

i want to try r_vsync 2 but then i dont know what the default setting is to restore it if it doesn't work. To restore to normal, do i type in r_vsync 0 ?

Are you using 2 different hard drives for crysis 2 and Fraps? (if not you should)
Is "Force Lossless RBG" on (if it is, try turning it off)
What FPS are you recording at? (it is very VERY inadvisable to pick any value above 30 FPS since 30+ will cause horrendous frame drop)
Recording at 1920x1080 should be manageable though I'd recommend recording at 25~30 FPS

Use msi afterburner 2.2 beta 4. Works 10x better than fraps. You can adjust the compression quality % to reduce load on system. Only 1 of the compression modes allows playback in windows media player tho. Use that one. It's what I used to record this video (90% quality) - http://m.youtube.com/#/profile?desktop_uri=%2Fuser%2FW1zrdF1ngrZ&sort=p&channel_id=0&livestreaming_tutorial=False&ytsession=%7B%7D&start=0&user=W1zrdF1ngrZ&autoplay=True&gl=US

I tried to Fraps CSS for 30 FPS in Fraps. CSS were not good playable as before. So I changed it to 60 FPS in fraps and game is more smooth and video also. So not tell me that I tried already.(but maybe that was my fraps problems, was long ago...)

And driver from NV and ATI will not help significantly. It will only do something on about 4-6%.

And driver, I think, will be not soon released.

Use MSI Afterburner, I find it has less of an impact on fps than fraps. The movies it records are just as high quality and optimised as well.
