Why would anyone pay monthly to play this

Post » Sat Mar 29, 2014 2:53 pm

Nah, keep the price high keep the kids out. There are plenty of MMO's out there, let them play another one. All I want is one MMO on the market that has a more mature player base, and they can have the other 50 MMO's out there.

...and yet soooo many people will be paying $15 a month, including me, because

1) it's snack money and on a time/cost ratio it must be one of the cheapest hobbies going.

2) it will keep a lot of griefers and trolls out. Not all, but a lot.

Because they like the game.

Easy.

You don't have to like it or pay for it.

Easy.

These are incredibly simple concepts.

Not sure where you got the ideal that the majority of players are teens. I've been playing for a long time. With Ventrilo and team speak you really get to know your guild mates and there have been few teens in the mix. Heck most guilds I've seen are very strict as to whether they will let someone under 18 even join.

SWOTR, the little engine that couldn't. If they had even a half decent engine from launch the game might be entirely different today. Other issues included : SWTOR PVP was crap too and classes were completely unbalanced. Their gear system was horrible with random chance drops in both raiding and pvp. It was destined to go F2P just keep the game alive, now their F2P model milks customers for random packs of reskinned items. Overall the whole game wasn't well thought out and felt rushed from the beginning.

It's something of a cautionary tale of what single player success can do to a company. Make them blind to criticism and overconfident in their ability to put out a good multiplayer product. Most of us in beta raised complaints over and over that fell on deaf ears, cause what did we know?

It's a good thing with ESO at least they have a vet with actual MMO experience at the helm.

You should see my restaurant bills over the weekend.

Not an amateur drinker.. when it turns to amateur hour I leave.

You are more than welcome to join my buddies and I on Axon and you will be more than amazed at the alcohol consumption when we play video games.

Handle of Ciroc 2 two liters of soda water...

As Craymar notes:

I would not be surprised to find the median or even average age of gamers was closer to the low 30s... those of us who got STARTED in video games in our teens, when they were first coming out did not STOP our interest in them, so while there are some new whippersnappers interested in gaming, there are a lot of older folk tipping the age-scales, too. :)

And as noted many times above, our disposable income, and value for the dollar spent, makes subscription models a bargain.

Research has been done on this before. The average gamer age is around 30. For most of the reasons you list.

Another little known stat: 47 percent of gamers are female

I watched 2 games I loved go to Free-To-Play model from Sub. Over time, logging in became a chore in both because of the constant trolling and overall childishness always present in the community after it was invaded by those who couldn't pay a sub. You get what you pay for. If this game goes F2P I'm certain the same thing will happen (and everyone who is like me and values their time will most likely have a hard time staying, especially when their friends start to disappear one by one each replaced by 100+ foul mouthed schoolchildren).

I wish the barrier to entry was higher, I'd much rather have a smaller pop higher quality experience.

I'll happily pay the sub for as long as the community is mostly full of people who care about the value of the game/community. That simply doesn't exist with F2P.

I guess I'm no one and it ranges from 155 to 180 a year. I will be paying the 155.00.

I miss those golden years before f2p. Wasn't nearly as much whining back then about a sub. Late 90s, sub cost. . . . 15. Gas cost 1.25. Now, sub cost 15, gas 3.60. Why cry?

after having 2 years of xbox live and 7 years of MMO subscription, xbox is a ripoff, 50,- DLC and you still pay for getting online.... and 50,- for the game

Reading posts from all of the fellow alcoholics on here has made me feel so much better. I can't wait to find a guild explicitly for partying up whilst drunk!

Yeah, $15 a month isn't bad at all. As others have said, going to just one movie costs about the same. And I sure intend to get more than 2 hours a month in on this game.
