Anyone can justify anything they want. Hell I'll spend days tinkering with something I could have bought for $10, just on principle. But, I'll also gladly spend $$ on something I can easily do myself, just cuz. I don't drink coffee, but if I did it's only 4-5 (or 3 is you get "crazy") cups a month worth for something that, hopefully, will be enjoyable. If, at the end of the 30 days, I don't feel like subscribing I won't. I just wanted to give this game a try as I think there is more than meets the eye here, but I can't prove it until I play it. Worst case I'm out $40-some-odd dollars and I'll move on to the next thing. Meh..

What do you do if it never goes free to play because it's good?

Yeap , i also think no game should have a sub fee/month OP , it is a pretty poor idea , and games today that do it usually go F2P in a year.

That said , i got my copy for free , so im going to check it out , if i still think it is worth my money after the first 30 days , then i will pay since it is money i would have spent getting the game anyway.

I love how people keep saying this as if it's some inevitable fact.

The reason THOSE GAMES WENT F2P IS BECAUSE THEY WERE [censored].

The main culprit, SWTOR, went f2p because the end game had NOT been tested, it was EASY and it was BUGGY which was not a good way to hold people's attention and keep them playing.

Zenimax has had people testing the butthole out of -every aspect- of this game and those people have debugged it and can reveal that the endgame content is GOOD.

Guess what?

That will hold people's attention, which means they stick around, which means they'll keep playing, which means....? They'll keep paying.

MMO producers have to work many times harder to maintain their games. There is CONSTANT tweaking, bugfixing, and content addition to these games. Sure, other games patch every so often, but rarely to the degree an MMO does.
That being said, there are still other business models to make up for these labor expenses.
THAT being said, I will ALWAYS prefer a monthly subscription to maintain 100% access to content being put out. I hate cash shops, by and large. I don't want to pay 15$ for an outfit. I want to pay 15$ so I can play 30 days and earn that outfit myself (God forbid it's a cash shop where it's not just aesthetics and it's a P2W model).

I'm willing to put 80$ into this game because the concept of the game itself is worth the risk.
I'm willing to pay 15 more every month afterward because, if I even remotely like the game, I'll get my money's worth. Considering how much play time I can rack up in 30 days, 15 bucks isn't a whole lot.

Let's say hypothetically it does go F2P in 6 months (I don't believe it will)...

SO WHAT?

I still will have enjoyed the 6 months and it was still worth the price. Waiting for it to go F2P to play is like not eating for a week because McDonald's is going to have buy-one-get-one-free... I think I prefer to not be hungry today...

your experience may differ

On a slightly serious note, I am one of the pro subscription people...

I dislike the idea of the so called "free to play" games because they are far from it, and those with money (or access to their parents credit cards) are generally at an advantage over the have-nots.

I think subscription is the fairest method for players whilst ensuring that the developers generate income to maintain servers etc

P2P keeps out the little kiddies, too. Unless they are entitled brats whose parents throw money at them. There will be far less trolls in a P2P game because of the obvious reasons. If they are [censored]ing about $15/month, then they won't pay $15/month to troll the game. F2P is FILLED with people like that. No thanks.

It is a very cheap game, but not sure how you're getting it for less than £1 a month. I think the best sub rates but it at £7 per month; which is still a cracking deal if ever I saw one.

I'm incline to agree. I have no problem paying a subscription if the developers listen, as they have been doing, support the game and the players and provide a constant flow of new content.

Yes and no.

WoW has tons of trolls but that is inevitable with 7.8 million people. The more people the more good AND bad you will get.

However I think, perhaps, there is some truth to what you are saying..?

Because out of all my hobbies, I spend the most time doing this particular hobby, yet it costs the least, by far.

I have heard horrorstories about stuff like Warhammer board game with all the figurines.

I myself have fallen prey to the money sink of card games (MAGIC -shakes fist at the sky-)

That's somewhat true though there's tons of spoiled brats and just immature advlts.

The real issue with most F2P games is it encourages the devs to focus on whatever cash shops they have in place to support the game, rather than actual game development. A subscription fee in place lets the devs focus on the game as a whole instead of just where they truly make their income.

Exactly. There is a particular F2P game that I adored. It was gorgeous and had multiple beginnings for maximum altitis. But it was also VERY pay-to-win, with the cash shop sporting all sorts of XP boosters and lottery-type packs and... argh. And there was a different game-breaking sale every other month. For all its charm, it was impossible to escape its terrible economy.

I'd hate to see ESO turn into that. Keeping it sub means they have no reawon to stack the cash shop. I say keep it P2P.
