Why would you dual wield daggers?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 7:07 am

If figured this out a bit ago. My plan moved to shortswords?

Since the dagger is top sneak tier any opportunist can just skip it and dump daggers entirely- saving at least a perk from sneaks tree for something else. Possibly more than perk since the top of the tree isn't a goal anymore.

agree that it kinda lets the air out of the dagger thief thing. As it stands daggers aren't optimal, looks more like an RP choice.
Makes sense.

If the numbers don't stack then daggers will STILL have great use if you took that perk. Just keep on on your person. Other perks say different weapons are better for an open fight.

  • When you do a double-weapon power attack while dual wielding, wouldn't using two daggers be optimal, especially with the x15 sneak perk?
  • Isn't the use of daggers, and the inclusion of the damage increasing talent in the sneak tree, deliberate so pure stealth characters have a appropriate attack without having to take a non stealth skill, baring in mind the lack of 'short blade' skill, and how archery/marksman is a combat skill not a stealth skill now?

Dual daggers could be fun in caves for sneak attacks. My assassin will definitely try this build.

as i wanna roll an assassin/rogue char with dual daggers for close range and bow for long range, IF the daggers are good for opening moves, could we then switch to dual swords does anyone know please? (daggers for opening shots and then for a full blown fight if daggers don't 'cut it' (ahem) then switch to swords?)
i mean could you level up dual daggers and dual swords and also use perks? has there been a full skill tree/perk list released on the net for us to see please?

if you like your two handers it may make sense to carry a couple of daggers, light weight and capable of stealth attack. swords have always been the gp weapon.
personaly im look forward to duel axes, double attrition should be good.

There is a stealth perk, which gives you 15x damage bonus when you attack with a dagger while in stealth.

Aren't Dagger related perks in The 'Sneak' perk tree anyways?

You're also forgetting important things such as the weapon's attack speed. Dual wielding two daggers with enchantments will yield a lot of DPS. Of course per hit a dagger won't stack up to a larger weapon.

There is a stealth perk, which gives you 15x damage bonus when you attack with a dagger while in stealth.

However, there also appears to be one that gives you 6x damage when you do the same thing with a sword...

Daggers will only be my secondary weapon anyways I plan to fill them full of arrows before I even get close enough to use my daggers if all else fails I may throw in one handed swords. I plan on saving up my perk points anyways and probably wont perk anything for quite awhile.

It's not all about stats and percentages. You're forgetting that people play games like this to have fun and/or to role-play, so even if daggers aren't as balanced as swords/magics/bows, some people won't give a damn, myself included.

I'm gonna guess daggers are the best for sneak attacks.

As for why you dual wield daggers, I think it is a choice thing. Why dual wield, when you can use a 2Her?

Why an axe over a mace?

The maths is sound. Without the +100% damage bonus from one-handed, the dagger does indeed seem underpowered.

However there are some other hidden factors in play we have yet to see. Surly there must be a reason for Bethesda to purposely exclude dagger from receiving the one-handed bonus.

The only use for daggers I've been able to work out is for a less close-combat orientated character who happens to have high stealth (And possibly alchemy and/or enchanting)

The daggers would benefit from the stealth damage bonus, and their rapid attacks would allow you to quickly chain together multiple magical/poison damage hits, especially if both weapons have different enchantments or poisons on them, while you still get reasonable melee damage, especially in stealth mode from the dagger stealth tree perks without actually having to significantly train your one handed weapon skill.

Because Skyrim is not an MMO. It doesn't matter if daggers are worse than swords, because the game is easy anyway. (I only read the tl;dr)

also, daggers will be insanely fast, and when combined with that elemental fury shout which makes your slash your weapon a lot faster, you could finish off you opponent before the fights even started.

I think you’re making some unfounded assumptions regarding perks. Specifically that the 1 handed prowess will be 20% per rank adding up to 100. Seems possible and IMO more likely to be along the lines of

Rank1-20%
Rank2-25% total
Rank3-30% total and so on.
Can’t really know till the game comes out of course.

im going for a stealthy assasin with 2 dagger OR 2 shortblade's... some" heal" and "open locks" magic would finish it of, and of course some acrobatics/strength...
so the important aspects to upgrade would be:
1; wilpower
2: inteligence
3:agility
4:strength or acrobatics
the race i think im gonna choose would be high elf...? bithsign.. mage?
what you guys think of this?

I think you haven't researched Skyrim. :-/

In Skyrim there's no atributes (like agility, willpower, intelligence etc), no acrobatics, and no birthsigns.

Think of it as the "Submachine gun of the melee world" i.e. not particularly good reach or damage, but fast attack speed. Plus the large sneak attack bonus means you'll probably kill opponents quickly.
