Why do you choose the classes that you do!?

Post » Thu Sep 22, 2011 6:01 pm

as the topic asks.

Why do you play the character types you do?

is it because it's easier, it's harder, it's interesting, it's a desire you can't fulfill irl, what?! I mean what the hell is it!?

Can't cast spells in real life. I'm not a woman, and I definitely am not an Elf. Necessity of role playing sorted.

I play a mage/melee warrior hybrid because I have commitment issues...

Due to what I think is fun at the time. Going to be an illusion and alterarion using warrior. No destruction just shouts on that front. Gonna get all those shouts... :celebration:

Haha.

I play a mage/warrior hybrid as well, because I love battleaxes and I love fire. Pretty simple really... I've always preferred the big, bulky, up-front damage-dealer type of fighter, as opposed to stealthy sneaks, which I've always thought was a more cowardly way of fighting (just my opinion before I get torn to shreds about that - I plan on having sneaky characters too).

Being a melee/mage hybrid with heavy armour means I maximise my damage output (exempting sneak attacks), get to swing a big axe and blow stuff up, while still taking heavy damage without dying.

I play knights with a mace+shield throwing spells of alteration and restoration with a dash of conjuration (where I mostly tend to cast defensive creature) because I absolutely love toughness, I don't care how much damage I deal, it's all about how much of a beating I can take :P

I also tend to play as a good character since I seem to have a hard time being cruel =.= I dunno why I used to like playing evil characters but now I don't feel right unless I'm playing a good character.

I suppose my inspiration comes from stuff in my childhood, was a huge fan of Hercules of all things as a kid and that innocent "I'm gonna be a hero" personality somehow just works for me XD My thing for toughness probably comes from my own ego, I'm really quite weak IRL when it comes to physical strength but I seem to be able to take stuff most can't.

It depends on the character type. :P
But for the most part, it's about what the different types mean in terms of their character for RPing purposes, and also to find a new way to play the game. It's a new way to experience it I suppose. A self sufficient ranger may just live off the land and do minor jobs in town for NPCs and a bit of dungeon diving for extra cash, whereas a warrior type might go all out being noble and completing the MQ, and an assassin would possibly pick completely different quests to both of those other classes.
It also gives a different experience based on specialisation - so a character who deals in stealth and is a bit cowardly would deal with a situation much more differently than a wannabe Knight that charges in head first; just doing what she feels is "right" without really considering her actions beforehand.

It's all a desire I can't fulfil IRL :P but I do it because I find it fun and interesting.

I play a Crusader(combat-magic, about 75/25 ratio) because I prefer melee combat, but I love to be self sufficient with healing, some magic damage and stuff. Prefer not to rely on potions or poisons.

When I'm playing true to my character and my personal version of what seems the most realistic way of facing foes...I go stealth. A sneaky, quick kill seems smarter than running in with my sword swinging.

When I'm playing for the fun of it....I run in sword swinging.

I only play spellcasters occasionally (more so for their backstory potential than gameplay) since spells and whatnot are more complicated than just running in and whacking stuff.

I usually go Mage first because I just love magic and the effects, AND the fact that you really have to plan what you're going to do and how, instead of just hacking away with a sword. I play Mage first, then usually a stealth/mage type, and tehn if I get to a third playthrough I go Warrior with a restoration skill.

in shooter games im a sniper or the guy lurking around the next corner ready to slit your throat as you walk past and i can switch between the two on a dime. so being an assassin was a natural choice for me that and its grimly satisfying going up to your dead target and seeing where your arrows hit.

If Skyrim is anything like MW and OB I'm sure I'll play many characters. I always role-play them using some lore friendly background I come up with. I do hate that in Skyrim you can't start with an actual class that gives bonuses to where you are going though with your character's story.

I was raised in the rough streets, but I start with no skills....
I was raised by mage parents who taught me magic, but I start with no skills....
I was raised by barbarian nomads living off the land, but I start with no skills....

Honestly about the only background that makes sense in Skyrim is that I was born (or hatched) on death row and was raised in a cage. <_<

I find myself playing warriors most of the time, because IMO, you just can't beat the classic sword. Some of my favorite characters in movies and books are warrior types. - Aragorn in LOTR, William Wallace in Braveheart.

The 'proper hero' is almost always 'synomynous' with the sword. Nothing beats the image of the warrior or the knight charging a fortress, sword and/or shield in hand.

I've been thinking this same thing. They say we won't be picking our sills, but really, we WILL! We are already planning them, aren't we? That's what we are used to doing in RPGs and it helps us form who our characters are. Kinda weird, but it's all good...not complaining!

I don't know really, I guess I just enjoy playing stealth character in TES. Maybe because it's a change from other games I play.

Skyrim definately takes away a part of the TES games I really liked. Just 'playing the game' and seeing where that leads me I'm just not so sure about.

What would you call a mix of Oblivion's http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Classes#Barbarian, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Classes#Crusader and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Classes#Spellsword?

I know I've already posted how I play but I've always tried to think up a good class name for my main character.

He uses 4 of the Barbarian's skills: Athletics, Armorer, Blunt and Block.
He uses 5 of the Crusader's skills: Athletics, Blunt, Destruction, Heavy Armor and Restoration.
He uses 4 of the Spellsword's skills: Block, Heavy Armor, Destruction and Restoration.

Barbari-sader-sword?

I try to play pure hybrids (mage/warrior/rogue) because I like to be ready for every situation.
