Why do you play New Vegas ?

Post » Mon Oct 12, 2009 2:06 am

Fallout 3 led me to New Vegas. More than any other type of game, the open world types are my favorites.....I love being able to take my time, pick my direction of travel, kill anything I want, sit on a hill or cliff overlooking Vegas or Hoover dam....turning on the radio to listen to a couple of songs. It is an alternate universe....a cyber reality.....and it's so damn fun!!!

It feels more like a proper sequel to the first two Fallout games. That, and it's incredibly fun with lots of replay value.

I love it. Obsidian's writing is great, the atmosphere is great, i can't begin to express how much i enjoy it. Moreso than that other game.

Because I bought it after my son watched me play all the games. (Except for that of which we shall not speak, because no child should be traumatized like that.)

Also, because the story is great, and original... and because hardcoe mode lets me play without being forced to gimp.

Great game, much better than that garbage called Fallout 3 which actually changed the lore of fallout since the enclave was destroyed in Fallout 2, yet in Fallout 3 it's alive in well with plenty of fire power. Harold should have never been in Fallout 3 since there is no way he with a giant tree growing out of him, could travel from the West Coast to the East Coast no problem. Fallout 3 also lacked choice that mattered. You had to go after your lame dad who left you to get attacked by. Fallout New Vegas more of sequel while Fallout 3 was more of a spin off. Fallot New Vegas contains a lot of stuff that was going to be in Van Buren (This is what the REAL Fallout 3 was supposed to be). Fallout 3 took place many years after Fallout 2, yet has LESS people than were in Fallout 2.

Choice actually matters, and the choice is not really clear cut. You can side with the NCR, Legion or make Vegas independent, and even those offer choice, do you kill the Boomers for house, or do you get them to join you. The companions actually have a fleshed out story, some more than others though. I love that you don't get perks every level and instead get them ever two, so you don't become a god so early. The story is much better than Fallout 3's "Go after dad, save water purifier which really doesn't matter". Choose to infect the Water with FEV or don't, again it doesn't even matter if you do or not.

Fallout New Vegas is a terrific game, that's why I like it.

ok you started this, um FNV has no replayability while FO3 has a whole lot of replayability, you get new shiny guns in NV but no targets, in NV you have like 5 dungeons to explore that are not vaults or apart of a quest. half the quest in NV are boring fetch quest. And the plot between the NCR and the Legion didn't make much sense, u got slavers with knifes and sticks that wear dresses destroying soldiers with guns and grenades, thats like a homeless person against a police officer.

Stop trying to stir stuff up, this is a purely "Why do you like Vegas thread", stop prowling it hoping for any justification to turn it into a "Vs" thread would you kindly?

With a little hyperbole and only looking at something from one angle, you can try to make anything look bad, but since you're clearly trying to stir up controversy, I'm not bating....yet.

agreed, like Mako said: This is a fun and peaceful place

Anyway, I play the game because of the great storyline and the fun combat. They put in a lot of fun weapons and you have to do different playthroughs to use them all to their full potential. It's one of the few games where I actually talk to NPC's just because I'm interested in what they have to say (and not just to trigger a quest). Conversations with people like Mr. House, The King, Yes Man, Veronica, Raul, Benny and Chief Hanlon were all very inspiring/funny. Memorable quotes like 'Where every man is free to follow his own path, do his own thing. Where every man is a king in his own right.' and 'We don't have to dream that we're important.' And boy, I'll never forget the speech Mortimer gives when he SPOILER talks about how the White Glove Society should practise canniballism.SPOILER
They even made very minor characters like Tommy Tortini memorable because of great writing and voice acting. I almost got a little emotional with certain quests like 'I Could Make You Care' and 'I Forgot to Remember to Forget'. The landscape is beautiful, and certain mods (those that affect the weather) make it even more beautiful. Speaking of mods, mods give the game great new fun quests and replay value.

I agree with Ham, I found House, Caesar, snd The King to be powerful characters each embuing the perfect representation of who they are and what they represent. Also, it's got a very esoteric serenity to the game, the site of humanity rebuilding, and the idea of helping Mr. House rebuild the world are both very awe inspiring.

'We don't have to dream that we're important.'

When does House actually say this? I've seen it quoted in several places, but I've never actually heard him say it.

Spoiler
[Courier meets Mr. House]
Mr. House: You've come a long way, literally, and I suppose figuratively as well. Now you're here I have to ask: What do you make of what you see? (note that it's not a correct quotation, I'm sure it's formulated differently)
Courier: A city devoted to vice and sin - what's not to love?
Mr. House: We don't have to dream that we're important. We are.

2 reasons.

first reason. KABLAMO.

second reason. i like that the story is replayable, its like a different game the first 4 playthroughs. and a good game for the next 1000000 playthroughs.

third reason. KABLAMO.

Are you kidding? New Vegas has 10x more replayability. Each playthrough is completely different with all of the ending choices and you can actually RP. In fo3 you had like 2 choices so every game is the same. The exploration never changes so just because you can explore for a while doesn't mean it'll be different the next time around.

Its a very average game with a unimaginative story.

*looks at most other games released the last five years*
...
*snaps out of it*

I'm sorry, but what was unimaginative about it?

An educated guess:
No giant robots, talking trees or settlements consisting of kids on shrooms.

This is something I dont understand, why do people equate Fallout with EXPLOSIONS BOOM BOOM? The less combat, the better.

So "EPIC!" stuff and "wacky" stuff is imaginative?
Erm... Sure, but imaginative=/=good.
Weren't they suppose to have a clan of talking beavers in FO1?
That's on par with Little Lamplight IMO.

Offtopic:
But yeah I fail to see what was so better about the main story in FO3.
It had one of the longest and most painful tutorials ever.
Then we're off to find daddy which is basically Go to moriarty, go to three dogs, go to Li, go listen to soft-porm, go save him from epic time-capsule vault, drag your ass all over the [censored] PP, get attacked by evil people in (Oh this is shocking!) dark armor, be Li's [censored] for 20 minutes, get a GECK which turned from a couple of papers and some seeds into a wonder machine, get abducted (Originality here), escape (more originality), watch a [censored] transformer have all the fun with Michael Bay explosions all over the place, anticlimactic boss battle, the end.

So we had:
* Talk to X
* Rescue daddy which we have no emotional connection to from an evil maniac in a time capsule machine in a "cool" sepia world.
* Roleplay as a plumber for a while.
* Fight evil guys in dark scary armor.
* Find good guys in white armor.
* Fight evil ogre's.
* Get garden of contradiction kit.
* Watch transfomer have all the fun while explosions are surrounding this "epic" character.

I don't see how this is better than NV's story.

Well Fallout 3 is full of explosions. http://www.break.com/usercontent/2009/7/michael-bay-explosions-821047 Also there are very few if any quest lines where you can get out of combat with talking.

Trolls are obvious trolls

End of the Story

New Vegas is miles better than Fallout 3

End Of the Story

We dont need "epic" stuff, we need good story and logic

End Of the Story

People who cant stick with the thread, kindly, get out of here

End Of the Story
