Wierd Glitch on screen

Post » Mon Mar 11, 2013 12:38 pm

Guys, Recently I've just bought a new Graphic Card GTX 680 2GB for my PC because my old GTX 580 broke somehow, along with my Power Supply, and a corrupted Windows.
After reinstalling windows and downloading back everything, I'm finally able to play Skyrim again, or so I thought.

The first 10 minutes or so, everything work fine. game runs very smoothly even with all the Official High Resolution DLC + other High Res mods.
After a couple of minutes though, sometimes my screen turned black for a second, then it's on again but severly lagging.
I could quit skyrim, rerun it again and it would run smoothly again, for a short while, until the same black screen pops out again.

Third time running skyrim, it didn't pop black anymore.
But now I have this :

After this happened, all I can do is restart my system and the graphical glitch will be gone, until I play again.

What scares me is, the glitch got carried outside of the game. After it happened, I quit skyrim and the glitch is still there. Something must have been awfully wrong :(

I suspect that it was my motherboard that was partially damaged due to the last breakdown before I bought the new VGA. Could be wrong though.

Anyone got an idea? or maybe a suggestion on how to narrow down the problem?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Did you try different drivers for your graphic card? The latest ones might be not good. I would begin there before doing anything else. You could also contact the store who sold the card to you and ask them about that.

Sounds like overheating, or too low voltage.

Have you run any test programs with temperature and voltage monitoring? I suggest starting http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and then playing the game. Then HWMonitor should tell you how high the temperatures rose, and how high voltage the graphics card got during load.

I also suggest you to check inside your computer case that every fan is running properly, and that every power connector to your motherboard and the graphics card is well connected.

How powerful Power Supply do you have by the way?

I have had blackscreening too with my GTX 570. It was a too low voltage problem, which I fixed with a firmware/BIOS update to the card from the manufacturer's website. Voltage was below 1.0 V during load. Now it's 1.04 V after update.
