Wife can't be a companion?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 5:18 am

first of all every one who says they should not all be followers will be found to be overwhelmingly wrong when mods come out and make them all followers and every one will DL and endorse... just w8 and mods will fix it as usaul I for one wanted shahvee to follow me and when I found out she could not I was pissed...

P.s. only trolls insult grammer and personal life when they have nothing better to bring to a argument.

Alright, guys, seriously.

Enough with the real life comparators. We get the Idea. That doesn't mean that there isn't a lacking game-play element here that could certainly be addressed.

Even if your wife/Husband isn't the adventurous type, they should at least have a certain degree of trust in the Player to at least follow them. Because honestly, a spouse that just sits at home and you bum gold and food off of is about as compelling as a vending machine with lovey-dovey text.

Adding a companion function would at least add a certain level of interaction with them-even if it's carting them around everywhere.

Not only that, but I found that if you force them to follow you, they behave exactly as you would expect anyway! Ysolda, who is not a warrior, just up and runs off whenever I get into a fight. I literally found her hiding under a rock in the "I surrender" position while I was battling some giants (epic fight, by the way).

Point is, the AI is already there to make those spouses that don't like to fight, not fight. Doesn't mean you can't ask them to come with you. Sheesh. Besides, like I said before, sometimes all I want is a walk down to the lake or something. Adding a little functionality can't be a bad thing, and it's especially not a bad thing when 99% of it is already there.

I made Ysolda a follower and she:
Has all the dialog.
Equips the best stuff I give her.
Follows me around.
Takes the usual requests (open a door, sit, etc)
And runs like a baby when things get heated.

Bam! The only thing that was missing was the "addtofaction 5C84D 0," and that easily could have been run in a script when we got married. Easily.

Played Skyrim yet? Don't have to do any of that.

Yes. You do. "Console command companions" have all kinds of bugs.

Playing is not the same as "making them companions"

I like it the way it is, not everyone in Skyrim is an adventurer.

That's why I'm going to marry Mjoll. She's a great companion, a great adventurer to have (I may be a battlemage but I can't deliver the sheer physical power Mjoll can), and her accent reminds me of Tali Zora from Mass Effect. When I first talked to her and she kept speaking in that voice and saying a few lines that Tali said, I was like: D'AAAWW!

You're making it sound like there's a ton of work involved to make an NPC a follower NPC. One console command is enough to make it work 99% of the time, and 2 should be more than enough.

What sort of bugs are you referring to? Ysolda has been following me around on adventures all day now, and she's still kicking around just fine. No "bugs" anywhere. When I go home, she comes with. When we "part ways" she goes back to her routine. I don't know what you have in mind for these bugs, but I do hope you elaborate.

And why would you want her to come anyways? What is she going to do, hit them with a frying pan?

This ranks among the most sixist things I've seen this month. Congratulations.

I'm with original poster: Your marriage partner should automatically be eligible at a Follower, as long as they retain their usual combat (or lack of combat) behavior. If you marry a merchant, then you're going to be escorting a merchant on quest, and not an instant-badass. Likewise: marrying a badass wouldn't turn them them into a meek and mild domestic.

At first I was thinking it would be nice to be able to teach your partner new skills, so you could slowly turn your merchant into a badass if you really wanted to, but then I realized it would devalue the uniqueness and personality of the person in question and make them just another piece of equipment that you can minmax to your needs.

I agree with Varus.

I married the mammoth tusk lady in Whiterun, and I was totally sure that would make her a follower. Why not? I mean, the game don't have to be all combat. Maybe I just want to take her out and show her where mammoth tusk comes from and what I had to go through to get her that damn mammoth tusk. But nooo! Now she is just part of the decoration of my home. She usually sits at the table that are full with giant toes....

Marriage is a wasted oppertunity in Skyrim. If only I could drag my wife outside the house, It might have been a little more interactive..

I married Ysolda as well, and only thing i wish i could do would be to command her to get in the bed so i can get the lovers comfort buff, or to drink her blood, but other then that i'm happy with her, she is one the prettiest women you can marry, has a sweet sounding voice, makes me moneys, and has her own home.
If i want someone to follow me to wait at the beginning of the dungeon to be a pack mule...Lydia carries my burdens
If i want someone to fight beside me... dead thrall'd vampire master
