Wil you first character be male or female?

Female if I can change character height.

Otherwise, male.

Well I'm not a fan of having sixism (or any other ism) put in where it does not exist because of someone's pessimistic expectations. I don't think there is any way to twist the words in that book I just published, so hopefully the whole thing is over.

Though maybe I could have just used a few bullet points...

I didn't mean to twist your words, and if I did so, I apologise.

Nevertheless, I find it troubling that so many men have trouble relating to women on such a deep level. We're talking about a game where you play a character who grew up in a completely different universe filled with magic and monsters... a character who can shoot fireballs out of his hands. Believe it or not, your life experiences have far more in common with mine than they ever will with the protagonist of an Elder Scrolls game, even a human male protagonist.

Male. I have made three female characters over the span of all time in TES games. Two in Morrowind, one in Oblivion. None of them ever made it past level one. Also, guys make much less annoying noises when they get.
The more I think about it though, maybe I should make a female character, just to switch it up. And plus, she'll have boobs! How can you go wrong with that?

Look at the behavior of men and women from abusive households and see how they differ in behavior.....just goes to show how much the genders are different

What difference do you mean? Is there really a difference in gender, when you look at the behavior of abused man and woman ?

Indeed. I used to think that way but then i tried it and i have to say, it can really add something to the roleplaying experience. I can only recommend people to actually try it if they haven't done already, it can be very fun to see the worold through the eyes of the opposite six.

Damn male chauvinist... oh wait...

I'm practically the opposite of a feminist... ;)

And PS- anyone identifying themselves as sixy should be required to post pictures. Lol

I'll be playing a male for my first character, a Nord Warrior I play in Morrowind. I'll be playing him while I wait for Skyrim to come out, and then I can play him again when he goes home (this particular Nerevarine doesn't go to Akavir). Not sure how I'll handle the "back to first level" thing, but I have eleven months to mull it over.

No, it was my fault. I apologise. But my curiosity is genuine.

Female gamers don't even have the option of always playing themselves. Most games don't give us a choice. We need to be able to try on the shoes of a male character if we want to enjoy games like The Witcher or Planescape: Torment. The fact that the protagonists of those games were male didn't stop me from getting into them, in spite of the fact that Geralt was a Lothario who would bang anything remotely shaped like a woman.

What is up with that reply? She was merely stating her opinion, and she has a point. I play male characters all the time and I have no trouble relating to them at all. We are really not so different in our mindsets, nor do our experiences necessarily have to be (especially not "infinitely more different").

I don't think people genuinely believe that they are incapable of relating to someone because of their gender or race. Most human struggles found in video games are more or less the same whether you're male, female, hermaphrodite. You're never going to be playing a character who is an abused housewife or a starving child; the gaming industry hasn't matured enough yet to face those kind of topics. You'll always be in a position of power.

For the most part, people just don't feel comfortable playing as the opposite six (when given the choice) because they are programmed to think that way by some obscene six role our society forced on us. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but playing Lara Croft in Tomb raider didn't hurt my experience. Her gender doesn't even usually factor into it when it comes to the grand scale of things. So when it comes to video games, there is no reason we shouldn't be able to relate...it's all just in our head.

I always like when people say they can't relate to female or black characters while they enjoy playing as an Argonian. :lmao:
But lets drop this before the mods decide it's been enough.

I get the feeling she has a reason for expecting me to look down on women. And everyone is different. Everyone. Please stop making me out to be some sixist jerk. I know females are human. But I am not female. Male human is as close as it gets.

If anyone wants to continue this, or still thinks I'm some terrible, confused person, please aim for my PM box. This has gotten out of hand.

Back on topic I think that the genders in the game are a little too similar. By that I mean that there aren't enough (small) quests open to only one gender or quests that play out differently based on gender. It would really add to the replay value. I know Morrowind had a few small changes based on six, which I never noticed until I played as a female. Just little things. And a few changes based on race could show up too. Getting a free ride as an Orc and Argonian on a few things in Oblivion was a nice surprise (better than being called a filthy Orc anyway).

I can't see how people say that period. I mean I'm black. I been playing as a white/asian people for a long time...too long to be quite honest. Diversity is in the air when it comes to video games (I mean name some games where you are a black character and selection/customization is not optional), but I'd lol if I ever here anybody saying they can't relate to a female or black character in a game. Be in my shoes playing the massive popular games these days. They are either white or asian and I can get immersed no problem cuz I've been that character too long. :disco:

Females are going strong as characters since Lara Croft and Chun Li so if you got a problem playing as female characters when you don't have an option, well that's a problem too.

Try not putting words into my mouth, okay? ;) I was merely replying to your reply, which was rude regardless of gender, IMO. You're making a big deal out of this when it really isn't.

It all depends on the look of the male and females. In morrowind I played both, but in Oblivion, the only races that I could stand to make female was Argonian and Khajiit.
