Not sure why people think it's so weird to play as the opposite six in an RPG; isn't part of roleplaying doing something you can't in real life? Anyway, that said, I am male and my first character will be a Dunmer male, but my second will probably be a beautiful fair-skinned redheaded Nord girl.

because a guy cant role play a girl and a girl cant role play a guy. you might think that you are role playing a woman but you are only kidding yourself. men and women have such diverse thought processes that its extremely difficult for one six to understand how the other comprehends and thinks. anyone who has ever dated much less married can tell you this.

what there is a shortage of is females as the villains......and not the unrealistic and stupid looking skinny girls in leather outfits throwing pro wrestlers around. i mean real villains. the first time i saw the movie The Blob i thought..........that monster is definitely a chick, just look how she grabs up everything pretty and shiny in sight. Medusa is the epitome of a woman having a bad hair day. have you played the FEAR games and silent hill, yup women ruined the world in those games as well. who was the biggest alien on the block, thats right the queen. some of the best games are when women are evil cause its unexpected, well it used to be anyways, now its getting a bit cliche.

I always play male characters. I'm not sure why, but female characters never click for me.

I'm definitely creating a Male first. I don't often use Female Characters, as I'm horrible with naming them.

Why do men who only play as their own gender feel the need to insult men who dosn't?

"You want to be a woman!?"

And why do men who prefer to play as women feel the need to defend themself with sayings like "if i have to play a game in 100 hours, i would rather look at a womans ass"?

"No i don't! I just have healthy, straight interests."

And why don't women feel the same need to insult everyone who didn't chose the same as them?

They're not men :)

In my experience that's pretty much how it goes.

No doubt, but why should it matter when playing a game with character of opposite six? Especially in a single player game?

Way to stereotype. :P Yes, actually I can roleplay a woman just fine. It's rather sixist and presumptive to assume that it is literally impossible for men to understand women and vice versa. If that were the case, every writer in history would write like Robert Louis Stevenson. For example, Julan--a companion for Morrowind and about the most realistic video game character I've ever encountered--was male but he was created by a female modder, and one of the most memorable fictional male characters Hercule Poirot was written by a woman. It's narrow-minded to assume that one six is incapable of understanding the other. This idea seems to come from a long history of human male domination, but I'd like to think that most cultures are slowly outgrowing that...or at least outgrowing assumptive gender roles, i.e. the male is inherently bold, brash, lustful, and out making money while the woman stays home and cooks, cleans, takes care of the kids, and vacuums in pearls to fulfill her husbands every whim. I, for example, am male and straight, but I hope to be a stay-at-home dad eventually; I don't mind defying assumed gender roles.

as any woman will tell you the vast majority of men arent hercule poirot......just as most girls arent tomboys. if tomboys were the norm they wouldnt feel out of place. i didnt say its impossible i just think that its very difficult and alot of people say they do it to roleplay from a different perspective. the only perspective i see changing is the ass view and im willing to bet that the same guys that play as women also download the sixy body mods and the bikini armor mods......oh and the anime blue hair as well. :)

im not sure where you are going with the whole women in kitchens thing? that doesnt have anything to do with how men and women think, women are more emotional than men. their brains are even wired differently, they have smaller brains but they have increased activity between the spheres.

the whole women in kitchens things started cause it made sense. think about it. in the beginning men and women supposedly shared tasks relatively equally when the first tribes were moping about. civilization starts up and you have population growth. who are you going to send out to hunt? all guys who you know can run farther and carry more food back and can defend themselves more easily......or a mix of men and women which will be slower and less productive. before people call me sixist i would point out every medical journal and biology book in the known universe backs me up. also women are more important for a civilizations survival than men. if you lose alot of men in your tribe or village you can quickly repopulate with the remaining females.........if you lose most of your women that is much more difficult and would take generations if you didnt go out and kidnap other women and bring them back.

i share you views of stay at home dad although in my vision i marry a hot asian billioinare.....oh hell, ill even take a mere millioinare heiress.

to show you the difference between men and women........one of my girlfriends asked me to rent a romantic movies for us to watch when she got back from work. since i cant stand romantic comedies or any of its ilk, i got the next best thing. unfortunately she apparently didnt want to watch the porm movie i rented and i ended up by myself that night. :(

I like to play female, but my first character will probably be male to really enjoy the main story as the "hero" (yeah I'm that sixist, sorry).

I know what you mean man! I can play the game as a girl adventurer but if I get very powerful then I feel fake, Its weird. It feels like a girl wouldnt do those things that the champion of Cyrodiil does, not that women CANT but that they WOULDNT...

I can see a girl as a member of the thieves guild like Methredel but not as the Grey Fox.

I always play a male.

I love to do that, and I'm secure and healthy as it goes, and I play both sixes, just for RPing, and testing the character's feel in the new world.

And I do not think that you can generalize the reasons to simple facts like being unsecure.

i did say "Some guys" not "All guys" then at the ned noted that other people do have other reasons. It doesn't mean all teens are insecure or that all males viewing the post are insecure, merely that there is people like that out there.

I like to be females. They're just cooler? Why? I dunno. I like writing female characters more though as well. Though they're rarely the traditional stereotypical female role (and what a boring and superficial one that is). I make my females, like most of my characters, tough, witty, eccentric, nerdy, or any mixture of that.

Still, the basic idea is that for some reason, I like female characters more. They look cooler and they seem cooler, so long as they're not traditional.

Meh, I think you can read too much into this issue. For me, it's mainly about roleplaying, whether it's a young male Argonian warrior fresh from the Hist or an old, potion-brewing Breton hag. I play as such because I think they'd make interesting characters, not because I want to be any of them.
Heck, I can enjoy LotR without wanting to be a Hobbit, why shouldn't I be able to play a female hero?

If you can't see yourself playing a character that is too different from your real self, you either have a different approach to roleplaying than me or you simply lack imagination. Neither of which is neccessarily bad, but that shouldn't lead you to the conclusion that people who like to play as the opposite six are perverted or have psychological issues.

Oh, I should probably mention that I NEVER make personalities or stories for my RPG characters. I don't know why, but I never have. So in that respect I have no reason to choose either gender.
