Wil you first character be male or female?

Post » Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:29 am

I usually play a male wizard as my first character and then go for a female bosmer archer. I think it suits better the class/race. On the other hand I would never play a female warrior which feels unnatural. I usually decide before I start the kind of personality my character has and try to match appearance too. I would like to create a purely evil character one day but the main quest making you be that saint hero that saves the world would make it a bit contradictory.

As for the whole male/female issue I believe that it really doesn't matter... It's all about what makes the otherworldly experience called TES more fun. I am however a bit disappointed in the sense that a different gender doesn't really change things up. The game world interacts with you in the same way.

Male, because it's easier to roleplay as a male.

But if the chargen is absolutely horrible, I might gen a female character if female faces are easier to make.

Male.I have only made one serious female character. It normally doesn't work for some reason.

I will be playing a male character, and a Nord at that. And the reason is that I have a problem with being immersed if my character feels too alien, as simple as that. The only instance where I managed to get around the issue was when I played Argonians most of the time, but even that changed.

Oh, I would like to offer my theory on the psychology behind women and different looking humans being more alien than lizard people.

When some people play a role playing game, they feel like they want one of two things. To BE in the game themselves, or to create an exotic fantasy character. If they want to play as themselves, they will most likely choose a similar looking race and the same gender. If they choose a different race/gender, they may experience something similar to the uncanny valley, where it is close to reality but slightly off, and thus seems unnerving. Also, women and different race characters lack their general appearance (or idealised appearance) AND also lack anything exotic, unusual and interesting, as they come across similar people in reality. However, one solution to this is to immerse themselves ENTIRELY in a fantasy character, such as the Khajiit or Argonian. They don't get the uncanny valley effect, and neither is it boring. It is a completely unfamiliar role that is totally seperate from reality.

I'm going to be a male Dunmer. I've only tried a female once. Prefer male. My friend only plays with females in all games.

I can relate to the guys who say they can't RP a female, I can't RP a male. Ever since my first RPG when I was 12 or so I've always been female--which is what I am.

So, I'll be female this time 'round, too.

Male. Every time. It's easier for me seeing as I'm male and, again, being female in the game seems a bit... Funny to me.

I'll admit though that the clothing seems nicer when worn as a female character.

Male imperial, I like playing as myself :P

How is playing as an Imperial like yourself?

I'll probably play as a female Dunmer or a male Nord.

I identify with chicks better anywho.

Good question - I'm a male that can have fun playing as both genders, but my decision may very well be decided by chargen. If one gender has better hair styles, or whatnot. I'm sure I'll end up playing as both at some point.

the only perspective i see changing is the ass view and im willing to bet that the same guys that play as women also download the sixy body mods and the bikini armor mods......oh and the anime blue hair as well. :)

I agree. Any male who plays female it's almost always for T and A, it's a titillation experiance. For some, it's purely sixuel, for others, it a quick 10 second experiance, and they just continue without any sixual thought at all. But in almost all cases it's always for a titillation experiance.

Otherwise why do people download the nvde mods? Why do you get the "blue" or what ever colour hair. Why is it always a skinny sixbomb looking character and not a homely, over weight charcter? Because it's for the titilation experiance. To say other wise you are just trying to make an excuse. Yes it sounds bad, but eh, we are male. What else more do you really expect? At the base of it, it always comes down to six.

My first character? I don't know whether they will be male or female. My oblivion character is female as is my Fallout 3 one, however in New Vegas I have a male character and am enjoying it for the first time in a couple of years ( first time playing a male character in about two years.)

Eventually I will be playing both male and females in Skyrim.

no counter argument.

Here's one: not all women and men think the same. Don't blame the Y chromosome for your inability to understand the opposite six.

Counterargument? Okay, how about this? It's a bunch of tired stereotypes and total generalisations. You have some screwed up opinion that because you are a typical chauvinist, as it seems from your posts (Your girlfriend asks for a romantic comedy and you buy a porm movie without evenconsulting her? What is wrong with you?), you think that every woman thinks the same and every man thinks the same. There are obviously tendencies for genders to be different but these are far from absolute and they are not totally alien to each other. You say all women are more emotional than men. In MBTI personality tests, for example, the thinking-feeling ratio is about 60-40% for men and 40-60% for women, so there you have 40% of women who contradict your supposition, which happens to be quite a lot. Your statement is a huge generalisation. And seriously? Anyone who is attracted to nice looking things is a female (see your the Blob comment)? What the hell kind of absurd stereotype is that? And even to the small degree that stereotypes remain accurate, this is due mostly to cultural expectations. Stereotypes are self perpetuating, because the majority of people want to 'fit in' to whatever mould they are closest to, and it is minimally to do with natural tendency.

I always play female (if given a choice) on the first runthrough. After that, I play a mix of male and female characters, female predominating.

I still find myself reflexively muttering "Come ON, girl!" when playing hulking crusader types, which annoys my roleplaying self when I catch it. :hehe:

did i say that all women are more emotional that all men. no i said that women are more emotional that men........big difference in how you infer it. are lamborghinis faster than fords.......yes and no. lamborghinis arent faster than nascar fords. thank you for the MBTI thing though cause that simply backed up my point. heres another science fact that should get you all teed off .......men are stronger than women.........now you can run off and find some 5'2" nerdy guy that got out bench pressed by one of the GLOW girls and prove me wrong on that as well.

selling relationship advice in books and magazine is a huge moneymaker in this culture, just take a gander at whats on the supermarket magazine rack at the checkout line. my personal favorite is the late night guy that tells you how to pick up chicks while wearing a funny feathered hat. dear abby columns are mostly relationship advice between men and women. if men and women thought the same and clicked together so well we wouldnt have such a high divorce rate.

if you have proof that the blob was not female im more than willing to listen to it. until then my theory stands

as for the porm thing im not going make excuses for that.........i was in my twenties and that was a very bad judgement call on my part..........the ONLY reason i did it was cause i figured it was better than having to watch titanic or some other godawful movie and i thought i might get some nookie. after some time passed she thought it was funny enough to tell her friends and family and everyone had a good laugh at my expense.
