Wil you first character be male or female?

Post » Sat Jan 30, 2010 8:07 am

Male, and either Nord, Dunmer, or Breton. The Nord would be a native, the Dunmer a refugee (or son/descendant of refugees) from Vvardenfel, and the Breton would be a tourist. Or something.

I've played every ES game apart from Arena, and I've never used a female. Never will! Also, and I'm not 100% sure about this, there is no difference in-game between choosing a female or a male.

Male and female have different attribute bonuses for most races. For instance, female Nords have higher Willpower and lower Endurance than male nords. This makes female Nords ideal as Battlemages, which isn't the case with male Nords.

I don't know what gender my first character will be. I never play as myself (it seems a bit egotistical, to me), so I will pick whatever suits the character I want to create.

Not sure why people think it's so weird to play as the opposite six in an RPG; isn't part of roleplaying doing something you can't in real life? Anyway, that said, I am male and my first character will be a Dunmer male, but my second will probably be a beautiful fair-skinned redheaded Nord girl.

What I find particularly worrisome is that many people claim they can't relate to a character of the opposite six. This claim seems to be particularly common among male gamers. Really, guys? Do you find it easier to relate to a talking, anthropomorphic lizard than a female human? Is this just some element of the phony machismo of gamer nerd culture, or are males really so lacking in simple empathy?

Only if you are a male chauvinist pig!

Clarification: the emote is there for biting wit and sarcasm.

TES is an equal-opportunity universe, not burdened by human cultures' debasemant of females.

Well while I understand that there are many women who make fantastic firefighters (I know one), dont blame him for pointing out an undeniable fact. Its simple biology. The way men act because of it may be wrong but you cannot deny scientific facts like that... I suppose other tasks and methods of getting around issues in TES could apply to all but his example was innocent enough.

Besides BGS designs their games with that biology in mind. Ever looked at the stat distribution for males and females of the same race?

Female of the elf persuasion. My male characters in any game tend to be pretty random, do-everything characters. I prefer playing evil female characters for rp purposes.

My first main character in Oblivion was male, so this time female.

I play both genders in games, especially in games like Elderscrolls, and I usually have multiple characters because playing only one character at a time is for noobs :P

In my case, merely to see the new dialogue choices (60%) and a bit of pervyness (40%).

Some guys are insecure and like to see a female body (Generally the teen boys or guys who never matured), others have other reasons, they'd need to tell you themselves.

- Because I find it easier to roleplay as/with a girl than to identiy myself with a bulky muscular male standard-body.
- Because I don't want to spend my time in game looking at a man's behind.

So guys who like to see female bodies are insecure? I don't quite follow.

Because women are clearly superior to men, obviously.

Male... because I'm a male.
Always played male characters, always will!

Me too, I end up creating a female character (usually a mod created race) but for some reason I never feel very motivated to play with it...

I'm sure there'll be some awesome beards now, so definitely Nord male. :D

Also, there's this.

Alga Highlander is female.

Why? Because I've been playing as a male for my entire life. Not only would it be a change, I'd get to see a woman beat up dragons!

Both

I actually create two characters when I start up a game where I can choose my gender. Whatever character I play first (or whatever character I like less) is typically an experimental character so that I know what to do with the character that I like more.

Male for the main quest, because being big, imposing, and knightly (in a sense) is more fitting. I know that sounds a bit sixist, but, in my opinion, a male knight/warrior is the most "fitting" main character in this story type.

I do it because I wish I was female IRL.
other probably do it because they're attracted to females.

Easy, the insecure people are the one who don't like looking at other guys's bodies, in some cases even other men in their underwear, if just looking at pixelated women can be pervyness then so can pixelated men be to the insecure types (even more so as they are often thinking about these things thus see it more than is healthy. So they often play women to say, "Hey look at me, i'm playin a girl in her underwear, i must really love women", mainly to themselves. Accept it or not, t's human nature.

*bows* I'm always honest, sometimes too much. Of course it does make it difficult talking to others, especially if they say things like "Aren't i brilliant?" (Even worse when it's your boss, mine has learned to just not ask me)
