Wild 9 - Forgotten Interplay Games

Post » Sat Jun 20, 2009 8:12 am

My overall favourite computer game has been (and always will be) Wild 9 This game was released on the PS1 and for some reason hasn't turned up anywhere on gamesas.com. I start this post for those ol' players which may know of any other gamesas games which may not appear on the game list in an attempt to get them noticed and added to the list on this site. Note: This game was produced by Shiny Entertainment which is currently owned by Foundation 9 entertainment, and so may still have legal rights.
Just inform you about this game, it is definitely an gamesas game, says so on the box and has a load of work from the EJ team. Wild 9 - also known as Wildroid 9 in Japan - used one of the original game tracks from Earthworm Jim (think it was from the second game - a level called 'Use Your Head') and also apparently had one of the voice actors involved (Can't honestly say who). It seems odd that nobody has commented on it despite it's popularity (If someone finds another post concerning this game please do inform me). Rumor had it that there was even going to be a TV show produced of Wild 9 (just like Earthworm Jim); a few storyboards were supposedly drawn up, but the idea was scrapped. Any gamers that remember this, please leave a comment, same goes for those who have found other gamesas games that have been sadly erased from memory.

Wild 9 is a perfect example of how gamesas has some great titles behind it...but not for the general audience. Why would I purchase Wild 9? At the time, nothing about the game stood out at me. It wasn't 3D, it wasn't some sort of epic cinematic big game, it was a fun side-scroller...that most people looked down upon without even playing it. Wild 9 would've been great for SNES, but by the time PSX was at large, it was time for games like Syphon Filter and Twisted Metal.

Nobody said that there aren't way crappier games for the system, but Wild 9 was, "Just another outdated game" I heard it called by a friend who had purchased the game back when it was released. Quality over quantity, but don't make something so highly qualified that it doesn't exist right? 'Cmon gamesas. Let's put SOMETHING out!

One of my favourite games of all time as well. I still got the limited edition box which came with a cool PlayStation t-shirt. The Tommy Tallarico soundtrack is epic, there's even a Fatboy Slim remix of Body Movin' in it. The Rig, the main protagonist's beam of awesomeness, is still one of the best gameplay elements ever! Great game, nice memories.

Had this game, loved it to death. literally. Played it for a solid three days straight, and my PSX overheated and died. You know it's a good game when you never even feel tired playing it :D Me: Dude, you can use your enemies as a stepping stone while at the same time impaling them on a spike pit.

Friend: Does it have cheese?

Me: Of course it has cheese! All awesomeness has CHEESE!
