will a r9 380 4gb improve lowest fps ?

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 8:10 pm

so my pc is getting a bit old, hd 6950 2gb, i5 sandybridge 2400, 3.8ghz, 8 gb ram, ssd, im getting a 380 and atm with my 6950 i get stable 30 fps but i get drops below 30, anything below 30 is unplayable for me, 30 is fine im happy with that, do you think if i get that gpu i can lock my frame rate at 30 without it EVER dropping below ? also at what settings ? i know shadows need to be set at medium

oh and i game at 1360x768, as thats my tv native

Godrays also a hit to FPS. I set it to low. You should be able to achieve your target.

I never considered any TV to be as fast as a good gaming monitor.

I know they do a good job handling the 30FPS from consoles, but how fast are they really?

anyways i dont need to wait as the cards just turned up lol

Most modern TV's are decent for gaming. They often have a GAME mode, which decreases the lag and increases contrast and such. I use my 4K TV for 1080 gaming sometimes. The only thing you have to do is lower the sharpness, as by default TVs are sharper than monitors.

I′m using the Radeon R 380 - 4Gb too, which is a great Card for the Price! . On a 1378 X Monitor you can go easily High to Ultra - Setting with Ingame VSYNC to 60. With Godray Low, Shadow + Shadowdistance to Low/Medium. You should get with this Setup easily Stable 50+ with some Drops in certain areas .. But thats normal ..., If you would like to use a higher Resolution like 1080p , you should lower your Setting at some points to Medium .....

well this is funny my hd 6950 plays this game smoother than the 380, dont get me wrong it doesnt get as high frame but what good is high frames when it stutters or judders, fking so hard to explain when this game has every kind of stutter you can think of

borderless windows fixed it but then it seemed to come back when i was in a cave, also borderwindows and window areo, or however you spell it decrease performence, if windows areo is not enabled then you get screen tear.

starting to wonder about the tv now lol its a cheap tesco hdmi tv, but i didnt think a tv could make games stutter, nothing wrong with my system been using it for years with my 6950 and it worked fine, though most the time i had to cap to my lowest frame rate to stiop stutter, and only in some games

Did you do a clean uninstall of your drivers, reboot, then install the latest ones?

Does iFPSClamp=30 under ?[General] in Fallout4.ini helps?

https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/492379439680692150/ is targeting 60fps. You are running at lower res. and lower fps, you should be able to achieve that easily. Its just messing around with the game settings.

Something is wrong. I use a 280x and do not have those issues. I get a pretty solid 60+ (Refresh rate.) FPS in the wastes but I do drop to the mid 40's in Diamond City for example but no stutter/jitters.

I have Shadow Detail and Distance along with God Rays at Medium, the rest is Ultra at 1920x1080.

I suspected a driver issue and was going to ask the same question.

Mind posting a dxdiag report? (In spoiler tags pls. [spoiler*]TEXT GOES HERE[/spoiler*]. <--Just remove the *'s after "spoiler" to make it work in your post. Or use the 'Special BBcode" icon left of the 'Font' drop-down box (When posting) then paste the DxDiag contents in the text field.

To run a DxDiag report follow the steps below:

1. If you are running Windows Vista or higher go to your task bar.

2. Click on, "Start Button".

3. Click on, "Run".

4. In the pop-up window enter DxDiag and hit ok.

5. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool pop-up window should appear.

6. Click on, "Save all information".

i appreciate the help guys, i have a question though wolfpup, so when you got the game you just installed the game, set youre graphic settings, did you max everything ? probably not shadows and godrays as they are broken settings pretty much from what i hear on any pc, and did the game work without any judder, stutter out the box ? did you use any frame rate limiter ? in game vsync, i did notice there 2 hdmi ports on this graphic card but assumed there no difference, probably just for another display or something

and yes guys, i unistalled the driver, then used the driver remover programe in safe mode, duu think its called, then installed crimson

i got the xfx version of the card too btw

another thing is i didnt bother using the driver cd that came with the card i just went straight and got the latest crimson, could that be a problem ?

Once installed I updated to the latest Crimson drivers. (You did the right thing getting the latest.)

The game detected Ultra, then I went in and lowered Shadow Quality and Distance along with GR's to medium. (Well, I disabled GR's at first, but have since found medium works good enough for me.)

At one point I did try capping the FPS in the ini but when they'd drop to the 40's the game slows down or speeds up with >60 FPS.

So no more capping FPS via ini. I use the Radeon settings to cap it at 60. (In the Fallout4 profile.) I have no issues when the game drops to the 40 like with the ini file option. It continues to run smoothly.

Vsync is disabled.

Correct, the HDMI ports both do the same thing and it doesn't matter which is used.

The shuttering happens to me, not very serious as compared to some youtube videos but I m still bother by it. I have to switch to Windows Borderless mode. But I found a way to remove the shuttering in full screen but its not feasible. That's to turn on steam fps display. Once turned on, the shuttering stops. In the end I chose the Windows Borderless.

Maybe the CPU helps as well. Initially running on a i5-4440. Gotten 60fps generally but like wolfpup, it dropped at areas like Diamond City (Entrance to the market) and some other areas. Upgrade to i7-4790k, all these drops gone. So I guess a better CPU does help in getting few more fps.

I'd love to get a better CPU but that means new RAM and mobo too. I just can't afford it. Well, not all at once. (Fixed disability income.)

I'm running an I7 950 (3.07 stock) OC'd to 4.2 on an MSI Big Bang Xpower v1.

I'm looking to get an I5-6600K at some point. I'd like a higher end mobo and fast RAM but I'll have to see how it works out. Even a decent mobo with that CPU and RAM is a huge improvement.

Unless one wanna run things at the highest settings, a good gaming pc can last for years. Just turn down the settings as ur pc ages :). I passed my old phenom II PC to my bro., added a 750ti card, its game on for him ...

yeah my hd 6950 was fine, but the problem was 2gb vram, that really was a game breaker in this game because it would get to dense areas and its like it chokes and kinda freezes till everything is loaded then continues as normal, now i have sorted my problem with this card im pretty sure it was throttling its self or some stupid thing like that, i set power to 20 percent in ccc and went back to 15.11.1 beta, thing is i cannot stand a fluctuating frame rate, it has to be smooth, so even know i could get 60 fps most the time, like you guys said i also get drops into the 40'sin same place and i cant stand it going up and down, i usualy lock to my lowest but ive locked to 30 and maxed view distence, thats good enough for me and is all i really wanted when i got this card

one thing im pretty pissed about though is im getting god awfull texture pop in, i was under the assumption it did that with my hd 6950 2gb because low vram but nope even 4gb still does it, wtf
