Will we be able to explore and collect items pre-nukes?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:00 pm

I think that would be really cool, to go explore that little neighborhood for a good bit before the bombs drop. Hell, maybe even go into a few side quests.

We could also collect things that only existed during that pre-war period. That sounds really cool, maybe useless sure but definitely cool.

Most likely not... You have no inventory system pre-war, AFAIK...

It would be nice I think. It gave me a BioShock Infinite vibe with the beautiful art and scenery that was on display in the background. And most people agree that one of the strongest parts of BioShock infinite was the beginning, where you roamed around and began to have a connection with Columbia. It would make the story more poignant if people actually felt a longing for the old world in game.

Yeah until you get a PipBoy you wouldn't be able to see what you got unless they did some other kind of system, say an Elderscrolls style menu. Not impossible but not probable. It might would be fun talking to our neighbors and hear their points of view before the bombs drop.

Maybe collect them and stash them then come back for them post-war?

All I can say is those Sugar Bombs had better still be on my table when I get back from the Vault. First thing I'm doing is eating those. Some [censored] interrupted my breakfast by doing nuclear warfare (which is really rude, by the way), but I'll be damned if that'll stop me finishing it.

you could collect everything that was not nailed down in the Vault 101 tutorial but you were only able to keep Medical statue,(the game auto striped you after the party if I remember correctly) I think both the comic and BB gun were put someplace else for you to pick up

In the E3 footage the SS puts on the pipboy and we see guns, meds and tapes in the inv but that could be just to show off the new pipboyaka demo magic.

Good idea right here. Highly doubt we'll actually see much meaningful gameplay in the pre war sequence, but something like this would be mad cool.

It would be great to stash a bunch of stuff in a password protected safe for later.

I think it will be similar to F3's intro tutorial. Free roaming to an extent, but really no where to go, so you may as well get through it and to the game proper.
Most likely this is part of why we see the military presence. It's to corral you. But also because it makes sense- it's a martial law scenario, I should think.

That was after he came out of the vault in the future, I believe. Unless there was a skeleton of a dead Vault Technician there before the bombs fell, which would be weird.

It'd be cool if you could leave your house and talk to all your neighbors. That would really hammer home the loss.

I expect the pre-war stuff to be heavily story/character generation/tutorial oriented. Only so much a player will put up with before they can actually start doing things that matter to them. I'd guess no more than 40 minutes of content between opening cinematic until "pick a direction and go".

At some point in the 200 years somebody stole those from your house. I'm sorry.

If it was anything like Tranquility Lane I would probably shotgun the whole neighborhood. Kind of be a bummer if I was planing a good guy.

NOOOOOOO!!! WHY? WWHHYY!?

Wow. I know the whole point of the pre-war sequence is to inspire a sense of loss, but this is just too much. You don't mess with a man's breakfast. It's the most importatnt meal of the century(s).

First an nuclear was and then the world has been filled with raiders and mutated animals for 200 years.

Think its some chances somebody has stolen your breakfast :)

Not necessarily. Codsworth is still there holding down the fort, so to speak. Who's to say he didn't successfully fend off raiders and mutated animals while you were underground?

I don't think so, seemed to be we would try to pick them up and just comment on them. Like the Nuka and S.Bombs. There didn't seem to be a huge amount to pick up.

Those that were left upon Earths surface, unable to find safety within a vault became nothing more than......animals. Animals who would steal another man's breakfast.

OldTimeKiller raised a good point. Without a PipBoy, you technically have no inventory in the game space. Or at least no access to it.

Unless there's a moment where you get to scramble for a few things before rushing to the vault and it just lets you grab things.

Given that what little item interaction we saw pre-war only resulting in the Sole survivor offering small quips about those items, its unlikely we will be able to pocket them for post-war use
