Will I be able to play Skyrim offline?

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 1:09 pm

The thing is that I am without any Internet connection for 2 months after the end of this month.

So I have to buy Skyrim for PC at the local shop but I've read that you require Steam to play it and I'm pretty sure you need a Internet connection to get on Steam.

Install Steam right now when you have a connection, because there is a offline mode when playing games that run with Steam

Only drawback is if there are any patches, you wont get it

You just need an internet connection to activate Skyrim. Then you can run steam in offline mode.

So in other words I can't enjoy Skyrim this year then? Because I won't have a Internet connection at 11.11.11 until next year.

Then I don't see the point in installing Steam right now and run in offline mode as I require to activate the game online, oh my god.

If the only computer you have capable of running skyrim can't be connected to internet this year, you're screwed.

You could try to put the hard drive on another computer?

Will you please read my first post, it's all there.

But I can repeat it for you as you are too lazy to read.. I will be without Internet by the end of this month for 2 months. So that is from 01.11 to next year and the game is out 11.11
And I don't really have that option to take my computer to a place where there is a Internet connection.. not where I am going..

But my question was simple: yes or no to -if- I needed a Internet connection to play a [censored] single player game, and it seem I do.
And I guess Xbox 360 owners (not me) also require a Internet connection, so it's all fair. But what a shame for me.

Easy solution - take your computer to a friend's and steal his wi-fi for a minute or two to register the game.

Or take it in to a McDonalds, etc. There'll be a way around it.

I don't have any friends.

And imagine the look of the employeers a McDonalds when I take my big black box and a flat screen, keyboard and mouse.. asking for some place I can wire up this black box to turn on my computer so I can activate Skyrim? Don't think so.

And I won't buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 just for one game. This is starting to get a bit silly, but I got what I came for.. I won't be able to enjoy Skyrim after 11.11 this year because you need a Internet connection AT 11.11, jesus christ Bethesda, you are so nice.

OP, where are you going that has no internet?

If you won't have an ISP but still in civilization, you can jack a connection somehow even if it is thru your cell.

Explain why you won't have ANY sort of an internet connection at all?
Do you have a phone? With 3g? you could use that to activate it if you know how.

Do you have a laptop? Install Skyrim on it and bring it to a local starbucks or internet cafe. Hook up to the wifi and you're set.

I will be locked inside a building with some other people but I am allowed to take my computer with me, there is power there but no Internet access as we won't be allowed to have communication with those outside the building in the real world. But they promised me they would deliver me Skyrim when it was released, that was the deal.

Doesn't apply to the OP, but just in general...

There are plenty of people who might do Internet things (read forums, check mail, download patch files, etc) at school computer labs, or internet cafes, or similar places. Whose own, personal, main computers are not online, are not portable, etc.

If you can get internet from somewhere then just take your computer there then register it or better yet the hard drive if you have a desktop

Not sure how many computer labs, libraries, or internet cafes would be ok with someone dragging in their desktop machine to do a download, or with ripping open their machines to hook up a loose HD to it.

Anything that has a internet connection can be used to register Skyrim I assume, so if you have some small device with a internet connection (Phone...etc...) then that should work, but I am not getting it for the PC and have no exp with Steam whatsoever so forgive me if I am wrong. Perhaps find a wireless adapter thingy and connect to a random connection down the road, or around you somewhere?

You don't even need to install skyrim, just enter the serial number into steam, and you're done.

Then again, you may have to download the decrypted exe file.

I don't think bethesda had the forsight to see that you'd be "locked inside a building with some other people but I am allowed to take my computer with me, there is power there but no Internet access as we won't be allowed to have communication with those outside the building in the real world."
And if you don't mind my saying so, WHAT?! Why?
