Will I be able to successfully run Skyrim with Mods?

Post » Sun May 25, 2014 9:03 am

Afternoon folks,

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum to post to.

Just a quick question whether you believe Ill be able to run Skyrim on Ultra with mods installed. (Namely texture packs, few gameplay mods and content mods, maybe an ENB)

Specs are:

Intel Core i7 2600

Nvidia Geforce 750ti GPU

12GB Ram

Windows 8.1Pro

I can currently run skyrim in ultra settings with no visible framerate drop (maybe minor drop with waterfalls, lightening etc)

Idealistically, I would like to install SkyrimHD, WATER, Skrim Flora Overhaul, Real Ice and Snow, SMIM, HD Enhanced Terrain, RCRN etc.

Also, if unable to run these at high settings, would I be wise to overclock?

Many thanks!

You have a decent processor and plenty of memory. So playing with lots of gameplay mods will not really be a problem. Overclocking your memory and processor doesn't really make much difference when it comes to Skyrim on a Core i7, but you could try it anyway.

However, the GTX 750 Ti is a relatively weak graphics card. It is worse than a GTX 480 (a card from 2010) when playing Skyrim. I am not sure it will cope with all of those texture and high poly model mods.

WATER, HD Enhanced Distant Terrain, and RCRN are not that intensive and you will be OK using them whatever. If you are already slowing down near waterfalls in unmodded skyrim, WATER has a medium resolution pack and some options to disable some extra effects, or you could use an alternative like Realistic Water Two.

Ive just added my 750Ti as I was upgrading my old 545 but on a pretty low budget, Ill probably update it in the future when I have a bit more to spend.

But cheers, Ill give them a go and see how it runs, if not I can always disable and play vanilla. Theres enough content there to wet my whistle for a long time!
