Will all houses you build be dilapidated?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:50 pm

I'd really like to build a nice house, I blew up Megaton in F3 because Tenpenny Tower was awesome, is there any information on how the crafting houses gets better with age or will they all look like scrapheaps? I'm not looking to build the playboy mansion, but I don't want to live in a over sized shanty.

there were options for concrete in the game play. so yes, I would assume the houses you can potentially build will be better than shanty towns. Don't expect to build tennpenny tower, but expect to construct some solid foundations

As much as I really dig Megaton's entire aesthetic, that's not what I want my new home town.

As the poster above me said there's a option for concrete, so im hoping I can get something really solid and not a shack made of scrap metal or wood.

I like to think the premise is working with what you can find. I'm not holding out hope to create a pristine home, but honestly I don't think I'd want to. There's a certain Fallout aesthetic I'd aim for.

I'm looking to make something similar to the Lucky 38 presidential suite, it wasn't necessarily clean, but it wasn't a shack either.

You know, I never was a fan of the suite. Lot of storage but wasted space. Mods were necessary.

I feel like if we can't build something pretty nice, maybe there will be some fancy digs we can purchase somewhere in Boston.

I'm aiming high. Ultra-Luxe presidential suite (or whatever their top tier suite was called). I'd love to make my own oasis in the wasteland, where I could retreat after dealing with daily business. This for the later parts of the game, possibly after the main story ends.

I would love this, I'm sure if it's not there by the time you finish the main game, someone will at least have planned a mod for it. If not, I'll hop on it myself

Maybe something more solid like the adobe houses in Fallout 2:

This brings a question to mind... how will modders handle player homes? In previous games, some modders altered the existing player homes, but others created new homes "whole cloth". While they can presumably still do both things, I wonder how that would interact with the settlement building feature.

That is, if you download a mod that places a really snazzy Tenpenny Tower in a settlement zone, can you then go in and alter it, or --- since it's a mod --- would you be unable to alter it, because it's a "fixed" item? I suppose you could still build up your settlement ~around~ the mod-house.

I'm pretty sure building player homes the old fashioned way of just building a structure in the editor will always be there. Based on the information we have now its only certain areas that you can build in, and there is really no way to know how hard coded that is. What we can do however is add new pieces to build with. Its a question of when and not if for someone modding in a Tenpenny Tower set to build with. Then the question becomes if we can actually make it tower sized, or if there's a height limit that we have to work around. That's something that's not been confirmed yet.

I am just hoping that the NPC's that move in to settlements offer the same uniqueness that megaton offered. That town always felt fleshed out really well and many of the NPC's had amusing quirks.

Houses where always nice but I prefer my bunkers, and hopefully there will be one in nice condition we can call home.

I doubt we'll be able to completely restore it to it's former glory, unless stucco and paint and drywall are a thing. I could be wrong.

If we can find 200 year old salisbury steaks then I'm sure some building materials survived in basemants and garages.

Heard a lot of people wanting this. If I were you I would do all the side quests set in Vaults asap, cause you never know if one might empty up all of a sudden.

I'd certainly expect my settlement to be scrap in the beginning, but I do hope that I can advance it down the road. Eg. access to a quarry... stone walls... Next to trees? Log cabin like stuff... And so on.

Doesn't necessarily have to work like that... But that you can improve the settlements aesthetics and/or quality.

I don't mind my village looking a LITTLE run down. But I think after TWO HUNDRED YEARS, people will have learned to build things.

Basically, I want my houses to look sturdy, not neccesarily luxurious. They need to be effective shelter.

Yes, moders can make entire structures they also have the option to make new building parts like clean walls. Might also combine this, say an pad with an cellar who is its own cell, you can also craft and deploy furniture. This might require an housing workbench who has to be placed in cell. Obviously its no problem making an moveable housing workbench who would let you have seriously fun like building inside an existing city.

Add new functions like a cage for your raider girl pet.
