Will all current Skyrim Mods be compatible on the PS4 Skyrim SE console version and the Xbox One Skyrim SE version game?

Not even remotely.

For starters, XBOX One and PS4 will lack the ability to have the Skyrim Script Extender, meaning not only will SKSE required mods not be available, but it also means those mods that have MCM support will have to remove that support in order to function, meaning they'll be severely toned down in what they can do easily.

heck no,

first of all any mods requiring script extenders will not work.. second of all, any large overhaul mods would likely have issues running (and if projects skywind ever come out they probably would not run as a result).. third, any major graphics improvements or things like open cities will likely give the consoles hardware some problems.. fourth, any mods that contain explicit 18+ content would not be allowed because of Microsoft/Sony's policies on such content.. fifth some mods have been abandoned at this point.. and lastly, some mod authors just have absolutely no interest in modding for consoles (and after the whole mod theft issue with FO4, many have come right out and said they will not support console mods because of it)..

while consoles will be getting some mods, it still won't be nearly as large of a library as PC will have..

That's awful, well, I'll just stick with the PC Steam version of Skyrim Special Edition once it releases on October the 28th then.

I think most mods have been abandoned at this point. Not every mod author has the ability or desire to update a mod or collection of mods indefinitely. In fact, some mods were even abandoned long before Dawnguard came out and subsequently, some of those were rendered broken by official updates and DLC.

Many of the top mods aren't so abandoned, but there are many top mods that rely on SKSE, though, and of course there's the whole "mod piracy on bethesda.net" fiasco as well, which is doing no favors for mod authors at all.

I might as well ask here, since it's somewhat relevant to the topic. I was wondering as well about mod textures and texture mods.

I have seen people saying that Skyrim SE will have PBR, and indeed as far as I know Fallout 4 uses this technique. Judging from the trailer claiming it uses screen space reflections, and it supposedly being stated that the textures in the enhanced edition will be better than the original PC high res pack it seems that they may have redone all the materials for PBR. This of course means however that every mod texture and texture mod will need to be remade, to me that sounds like the opposite of most mods working without much alteration.

As far as I can see, the only mods that will be working straight away are perhaps quest mods and anything that only uses vanilla assets. Is this probably a correct assumption?

Quest mods will almost certainly contain scripts and if they're SKSE they're going to be crippled in functionality. Vanilla assets is probably correct in assuming they'll be fine although it doesn't necessarly mean modded won't be, assuming you're talking about meshes and textures. So long as the console hardware can handle the polygon count and texture resolution they'll probably be ok.

A lot of the mods that are out for Skyrim are Nexus exclusive. Meaning they will not be brought over to the toxic Bethesda site. Yup toxic. A place where stolen content goes unchecked and where mod authors constantly toil over this. Also a lot of mod authors will not want to go through the trouble of re-compressing and reformatting their texture mods for consoles. It's just a pain in the ass. So, just be happy with what you get and make sure it's legit because DRM on mods is currently being implemented in ways that can....well you might be re-installing your game if you get what I'm saying.

I'm going to predict that almost none of the current Skyrim mods will ever be playable on console. Most might not even get updated for PC. Besides the technical issues, there are a lot of abandoned mods, and modders are quitting all the time. Sometimes because of all the bs in the modding community, but often just because of life. What will be playable are new mods made specifically for the remastered edition, made by a new group of mod authors.

Most do, yes.. but for Instance, Northern Encounters doesn't require SKSE and add's in quest's and new places. Now I am not saying that it will be compatible with the SE version, it may not, as an Ini tweek need's to be done.( I don't know if that is possible on console as I never tried and never looked into it). What I am saying is that if one look's, their are "quest" style mod's that don't require SKSE... will the mod author go to the trouble of making it compatible, that I don't know.
