Guys, the evidence is right within Morrowind. At many instances, Argonians in that game refer to humans as warm-blooded and soft-skinned, clearly implying that Argonians are neither. They sure as hell are cold blooded. This is set by lore.

As such, the only way they could survive in Skyrim is if they had a very potent heat source nearby at all times. Clothing alone won't do: If you're cold in the first place, it doesn't matter how much fur is wrapped around you, you're still cold. You rely on the sun warming you up. Or some other heat source. Maybe Argonians are constantly sitting in front of fireplaces, then take a lot of clothing, go outside for five minutes, by that time the body cooled down again and they have to retreat to a fire. That'd be quite silly.

That, or, more likely, Bethesda ignore lore and logic and go with convenience. A cheap way of doing things, but probably the most obvious one.

Argonians definitely generate body heat as they do move around a lot. Also I don't think a totally cold-blooded creature would have fast enough metabolism to be able to have high brain activity.

It's still going to be interesting to see if Argonians have thicker scales or bodies in Skyrim.

"Argonians are out." said Todd Howard in a interview, "They just didn't fit with what we were doing, so we had to cut them out." After the interview, Todd went back to the office to find out that it was burned to the ground......

The Shadowscales would hit Todd's office in an instant if he would say that. :P

Their skin is likely harder, and blood flow slower, but they still generate body heat.

Exactly.
There is more in nature than just warm and cold blooded. There are things in between.
They can be facultative or excersize endotherms, like on earth there are sharks and insects and amphibians like that.

Being totally exotherm does not make sense at all given their size and activeness.
A total exotherm that size would spend most its time sunbathing and conserving energy.

So while they may not have an endothermic system like mammals do, I very much doubt their internal temperature is completely based on the outside temperature.

why is the argonian body heat now an issue?
if i remember correctly argonians in oblivion could be seen running around snowy mountainous areas like bruma without ill effect.

argonians are a pretty strange race already with their amphibian/reptile/humanoid physiology, who's to say they don't have something in their bodies to counter the effect of the cold in skyrim?

Also, let's not forget this is still just a game. Mistakes can be made. Even if in morrowind or wherever there was an argonian that implied he's cold-blooded, Stuff can be changed you know? It's not like real history, don't get so freaking worked up about it.

Of course there in ^_^

Also I'm not sure they follow the same rules as Earth's lizards. I mean female Argonians have mammary glands for crying out loud.

yes but not which 10 races

False. Todd said in an interview that all ten races of the previous games were in Skyrim.

Argonians must be warm blooded, they would not have been able to evolve intelligence otherwise. :frog:

I don't mean to be rude. But that would be one of the dumbest possible reasons to remove a race from the game.

There was at least one Argonian in Solthesheim in Morrowind. He was the boatman from the docks. He just kept asking for a pair of boots. So apparently they can manage in the cold quite well. (And there was also an Argonian shown in concept art in the background of one of the videos at the GI Skyrim hub. It's the video on the "Art of Skyrim". I'm sure there's a screen cap of it somewhere.

UESP wiki has now been fixed on the subject :)
The page on Black Marsh no longer says Argonians are cold blooded.
It can be re-added, but only if a source recognised by the UESP says that they are cold blooded.

Reptilian does not mean reptile. It means having some reptile traits. Keyword-some

My Argonian often passes out cold due to drinking. Does that count too? :P

Argonians aren't cold blooded.

One reason: The Argonian in Solsthiem complained about the cold. I'm pretty sure they can't feel cold or hot.

A Cold Blooded animal is perfectly suited for any extreme weathers, as someone said. This would actually be a fine environment for them.

But, anyhoo, that's EARTH logic. That all goes out the window. It's all up to Bethesda if they defy the biological laws of Earthling nature.

At the close of the fourth century of the third era, the Argonians commonly encountered in Tamriel were very similar to Dunmer and appeared humanoid. In Vvardenfell only thirty years later, the Argonians found resemble amphibians more than humans, with digitigrade legs.[24]

In other words, some of them may have evolved into warm blooded creatures.

Argonians can survive in Solstheim indefinately away from a heat source (albeit unhappily) and Solstheim is further North than Skyrim.

Actually, looking at a map, Vvardenfel is roughly parallel to Skyrim and Argonians get along quite happily there. Only the far north of Skyrim is really frigid.

I guess its about like Canada.
