Will Beth do any balancing or is that up to modders?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:34 am

Bethesda is certainly not known for balancing patches. Forunately I play on PC so I am sure there will be plenty of balance and gameplay mods... What does that mean for console players though give how unbalanced the games difficulty, level scaling and skill system currently is?

I doubt it. They probably don't have the guts/reason to do it because they know modders will fix it, meanwhile our fellow players stuck on consoles are screwed. That and, we've got the infection of enablers who say it isn't an issue, which just lets them get away with the same kinds of problems in future games.

Is this your first elder scrolls game?

We've always had to rely on modders to fix the game. I honestly don't know why bethesda pulls this sh!t on us every time and somehow gets away with it.

It's not all that bad for PC players, we just have to endure the long wait for mods to come out, or mod it yourself.

But it's always been not worth it to buy it on consoles. Of course I'm going to get a lot of replies from people saying there's nothing wrong with the game and I should shut my mouth. Oh well.

I will be pissed if they don't do at least SOME balancing. I play on PC but what about the poor folks on consoles?

They will probably let modders fix it, like they did with Oblivion.

What bethesda should start doing (I don't know why they don't) is make the game configurable from the start. So if you don't want a certain feature, you can bring up some kind of menu system and toggle things on and off.

I've seen it done for fallout mods.

I know we can already basically do this on the PC version, but I'm talking about an actual in-game menu. This would be geared towards console gamers more-so than PC gamers, as the console version is stuck on Vanilla + whatever patches they release for it.

meh, oblivion is why I bought a PC, and then I could make the game work how I wanted. On consoles your stuck with how the devs want it. which is usually ok, but mods are sooo much fun :D

Nah nah, if you lvl a character wrong you will suffer. If you lvl well you will be fine. Game is ok as far as balance from what ive played at least

Anything specifically you feel needs a fix? its not like BF3 where "this gun is too strong" crying BS...

How do they get away with it? Could have something to do with them usually getting game of the year

for starters.....

The lockpicking skill is practically useless to level up. You can pick a master lock at level 15 (starting stat) with no problem, provided you have enough lockpicks for trial and error. Which isn't an issue since they are WEIGHTLESS and cheap and plentiful.

So there's no incentive to level it up. And in my opinion, the perks are useless in the skill tree.

So, I want lock bashing. And I want it implemented well. I want it to make a loud noise so that it has a chance to alert nearby NPCs of my crime. And I want it to have a chance to damage some of the contents inside. And I want it to be based on either your characters strength (which isn't present at the moment) or your weapon skill (higher skill, higher chance to bash the lock open). This is so there is some incentive to choose lockpicking over lock bashing if you aren't melee inclined or want to be stealthy, or both. This works with doors as well.

And I want my godamn open lock spells for mages. There's no reason for removing these spells. And before you say "oh, but then there wouldn't be any reason to choose lockpicking over alteration, since alteration has more benefits than lockpicking.", let me remind you that you need to have like 4 different spells (one for each level of lock), and have a high alteration level to unlock higher tiered chests. So you would have to do a lot more leveling of alteration compared to leveling your lockpicking skill, which I've already explained is broken anyway. You can open a master lock at any level of lockpicking, while you'd have to do a good amount of leveling to open harder chests with alteration. And remember, the more you level it, the higher your character's actual level. And enemies scale with you. So it's automatically balanced. I really don't know what bethesda was thinking on this one.

So there's that. And there's much more. I'll save it for another post.

I would feel depressed if I ever bought a Bethdesa game on consoles; the games are far to reliant on mods to really make the game what Bethesda should release. Sure they are epic and impressive sand box open rpg's but the balancing issues that are prevalent on their games upon release "that are often never dealt with by Bethdesa" are certainly annoying.
